Getting bored in Balcony I went across the park to Pussy Cat, and I loved it.
Nice and funny girls, strip shows, relaxed athmosphere.
I would have gone out with some girls but didn't bring enough money. You need to pay your tab (15 R$ a drink), then 50 R$ barfine to take the lady out, about another 50 R$ for the nearby motel, and 200 R$ for the lady (initial figure is 300 R$, not sure it can get lower than 200 R$).
I think next time I'll bring some money, life is short after all.
i am sending this reply from atlanta, as i am done with this trip. reflecting on it all, it's all speculation. i was before i left i heard the opposite that he wanted to sell, so we do not know of anything until it happens. even the new replacement for helpee, the meridian, is a rumor control issue. but service there is a serious issue. my friends and i got a tower of warm beer without fizz, and it took them a hout to decide to change it, and almost another hour to change it. and the owner's good looking wife who handles the money, carol, needs an attitude adjustment. maybe she's made because she can't make herself extra money at helpee anymore while her old man is running balcony. and taking a [CodeWord140] in their hot and smelly bathroom can definitely sober up a deadman.
why do you guys care about the beer and the service. i have my own beverages at my apt and i don't patronize businesses like balcony for exactly the reasons you speak about. i'm there strictly to see and possibly pick up a chick. honestly, i've never seen anything at balcony worth taking but i've been there a few times to look around. but i think we need to start hitting these businesses in the balls. stop buying shit from them. stop doing any business with them. just use their place to pick up chicks. this stuff is like a disease in brazil. people and businesses that offer terrible service but continue to do so because gringos like us keep giving them money. they have no reason to get your beer changed fast. why bother when you'll be back on your next trip buying beer again. we have to make them pay for treating us like shit.

But I do no fly all the way to Rio to drink in my apartment. And before I choose a girl for the night, I like to watch as many as possible. Having cold beer towers with friends is fun. Plus a friend how helps me is an older working girl that I never had, and, will not have sex with knows many girls in Copa from and they sit at her table. And she works at the Pussy Cat, where Barbarella girls frequent. She steers girls to me that I like and the price is reasonable. So cold beer towers are important. One tall and one half cold tower and it's a night of watching and seeing enough girls to pick one or not.
The main issue with Balcony is that they do not use professional waiters like the other Copa restaurants. As a former restaurant owner, you do not hire busboys to be waiters to save money. I think if the American decides to keep Balcony, all the customer service issues will be fixed. It costs too much to fix things over and over, then to get it right the first-time.
But I do not go to Rio to penny-pinch or drink in my apartment. If that works for then I am glad for you.
reading this short article about the othon hotels getting an investment from the government sheds some light for me as to why they closed helpee. with helpee open the rio othon palace hotel was a dog of a hotel, no one would stay there and no one would make an investment in it. now that helpee is closed the government is making an investment in the hotel and i'm willing to bet many government officials knew this and have stock in the hotel, it's about greed.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-02-04/hoteis-othon-surges-on-brazilian-hotel-financing-update1-.html
othon hotels are 'dogs' all over brazil ,and not only the one next to help.
othon bh is a mess.
othon sp is dumphole
etc.
and i am not not even speaking about the othon offsprings.
has anyone visited savoy othon in rio ? it is the ants capital of the world.
friendly advice:
stay out of any brazilian owned hotel.
stay away of any brazilian restaurant.
don't fly any brazilian airline.
just bang their women.
time to keep on reporting, at least for the ones who enjoyed my post ;)
so far as i banged the best girls, in my opinion, in the most famous termas and i did not want at such prices to get one i did not like much, i thought could be a good idea to try the rip off terma, the so called centaurus.
going there using my portoguese i asked taxi driver if he wanted to get commission as it was my first time there, he obviously said yes and i asked him how i could make to pay only entrance, cause as you know, at centaurus they try to make you pay in advance entrance+40 minutes before you even dress bathrobe.
he said, in portoguese, just tell they cannot sell entrance together sex and that's all !
at reception there were two guys already paying the 450 reais in advance, i told them why ? they told me, it is the way it works at c.
i patiently wait they went to lockers and when the man showed me the paper that explains all you can do in terma, the fact you pay 450 reais and you have 40 minutes with girl and etc....i told him i already was in.....4x4, luomo, montecarlo, solarium, 65, cancun, ancora in barra da recreio and i never paid in advance and i will never do, cause i am sure they cannot sell together entrance+sex, he smiled and said ok, 120 reais entrance.
almost the double entrance of the other termas, i know, but at least it was up to me if to bang a girl or not.
let's say it is true, there are a bit better looking girls than in the other termas. it is true that they are very pushy, but who cares ?
after i told the same sentence, agora quero fichar sozinho, ( now i want to stay alone ), to 4-5 girls, they immediately stop to come to me and i could drink in peace my beer and start to look around....
as you easily guess 99% are gringos, guess why....
i saw couple of blondes with total white skin they could be russian ones, the second one told me with a big smile she was obviously completa, a level, so i decided to take her.
her name was [CodeWord901], something as 160cm for 45 kg, long blond straight hair, i waited her for ages in bedroom, not good beginning but the best arrived when she told me, there is a problem ?!?
"i finished my gel". i told her, ask to one friend or find a new one, she said no....obviously i already understood how it could end, but it ended even worst....
she wanted to bj with condom, i said no and the bbbj was so sad it looks like more handjob, then she said we can try anal and obviously she feels pain and i did not insist more.
so i could complain, report to owner, get angry, but....so far as i know they are first of all human being and even if i can bet she is a real asshole, maybe she just had a bad day. i am not a kind of guy i [CodeWord123] or i do something the girl do not like, no matter if she lies me a while before, i decided to take it all veeery easy and i just left the bedroom with no orgasm at all.
the girl who clean the room saw me get out of room quickly and after a while i went into and asked me if all was good.... i thought a while and i said with a big smile, yes all was great !
actually i did not care, i knew i was ripped off, but i took it as just losing money and i did not let to make this experience to make me get angry.
i thought to what to do next day as this was only one of the many times in this holiday rio dissappointed me.
i know that if [CodeWord901] just had a bad day for whatever reason, she did not deserve to get some problems and if she lies all the times, sooner or later she will lie to brazilian one who could care less if she had finished the gel for anal sex.
probably some of you will not agree with me, but i feel just fine in this way.
it was for sure my last time at centaurus and as i will report later, probably even my last time in rio.
lifes is so short and so beautiful to let to one girl to make me angry for....not having good sex.
oh yes, i burned about 180 euro for nothing, lesson learned for sure !
however i do not have the feeling i choose the wrong girl, but that i went to wrong place where, more or less, all the girls behave in not the best "way".
cheers...but with smile :d
Luke,
Thanks for the detailed report. I was REALLY hoping that your report would be different from all of the other reports we have heard about Centaurus. But I guess not. Sounds like you had the same crappy result that most other guys get too. Can't tell you the number of times that I "almost" went to Centaurus but ended up going somewhere else. I am glad I did. Thanks for reconfirming my suspicions.

Both of these statements are patently absurd. There are many fine Brazilian restaurants, and I have received excellent service on Brazilian airlines.

Definitely an expensive dinner by Brazilian standards but the food is great and so is the service.
I joked a couple weeks back about going to Europe instead of Rio this March with all the bad reports that have been on this board but my biggest hesitation was always losing that 45% on the exchange rate before you get off the plane. Lokks like that is all starting to change as the Dollar is gaining strength again after years of being shit on by the rest of the world. 1.68 to 1.86 Dollars to Reals in the last 2 weeks and 1.46 to 1.35 on the Euro. My new determing factor is what happens 1st. 2 to 1 Reals or 1 to 1.25 Euros. My mongering future is now in the hands of the currency traders. LOL

LOL
I recently visited the north of Spain for Business. While I was there I discovered 3 Places which were very much like Termas. There were lots of girls from South america. Quite a few Brazilians & Columbians. The price was 65 Euros for 30 Minutes. Had 3 or 4 really good GFE experiences there.
The City was called Bilbao. There is more info on this place in the Spain thread.
asianatic - you maybe could give more info (eg your knowledge of the city, whether you have some porto etc) so helpful answers could be offered. the hottest thing in rio during carnaval is carnaval. whether the area around the official competition or the parties rep001tered thru the city.
thanks for the replies, however i'm a very frequent traveller to asia, i have never experienced rio. yes, i am there for carnival too but want to enjoy 24hrs a day. i got a sambadrome ticket and accomodation in flamengo area. my portuguese is limited to some basic spanish. what are botequims and sucos bars anyway ? any name ?
one thing i can't really understand about safety. if one wants to go out for a night, he has to carry money right ? i got a inner pocket being stitched in my evening pant as well as a couple of shorts. still, i will take a taxi everywhere as i could understood is the safest way to get around during rio. (please correct me if i am mistaken). dresscode : will a fancy black pant with short sleeve shirt be alright ? apart from the carnival, i'd like to enjoy the "regular" nightlife.
leaving this thursday.
thank you,

Porcau has great service, and so does most Brazilian restaurants that I've dined. But the service at Balcony is lower than a little kid selling chiclets, because at least the price, product and service generate no complaints.

Thank you,
Asiatic,
At the risk of upstaging any of the guys who actually live in Rio today, I will tell you that you don't have a whole lot to worry about beyond how you would normally conduct yourself in Asia. Yes, there is crime, yes you must be aware of your surroundings. There are ATM machine just about everywhere in the better trodden parts of Rio so depending on your plans, you don't need huge wads of cash in your pocket. Also, credit cards are becoming more and more commonplace in Brazil. Although make sure you have more than Amex (VISA or MC) to avoid disappointment.
Sucos bars IMHO are one of Brazil's gems. In Zona Sul they are everywhere and serve up all kinds of common and exotic juices. My personal favorite is in Ipanema at the corner of Visconte de Piraja and Maria Quiteria. But there are literally hundreds if not thousand of these places.
Botequims in Rio are almost as plentiful and vary from a hole in the wall to something that might resemble a restaurant. IMHO a botequim is like a neighborhood bar. Again, picking a favorite is like naming your favorite girl - it's a matter of personal taste. My personal favorite is just down the street from the aforementioned juice bar on Maria Quiteria closer to Prudente de Morais and is called "Espalunca". Great little hole in the wall with great cold beer. A bit more upscale for many but for me it's the right combination of cold beer snacks and eye candy. Of course, this info will be of limited use to you as you will be in Flamengo. But ask the door man where you can find a sucos bar or a botequim and he will be happy to make suggestions.
Finally, language. If you know some Spanish you are way ahead of the average gringo tourist to Rio. Knowing some Portuguese is useful but certainly not necessary. Any "service provider" with half a brain (be it for sex, food, drinks, or even a beach umbrella will make an effort to make himself (or herself) understood in an effort to seal a transaction.
Have fun - be aware - and enjoy your self in the Cidade Marvilhoso.

One of my favorites too, right down the street from the Ceasar Park hotel. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I always stop in, one time 3 cougars approached me, one was a Doctor, we exchanged numbers, one actually called me but we never connected but there are possibilities there.
