Questions Please Help
I have a few general questions. I am planning an upcoming trip in a few weeks. This is NOT my first time visiting Medellin.
1. I arrive on jan 12. Do any members *living in Medellin think I will have trouble getting a hotel room (in the centro) without a reservation? I chose my dates hoping the Christmas rush would be over.
2. I am confused about LA 33. I've been outside of fase 2 across from the san diego mall. I saw a few SW's around the corner and a open air bar right next door to the strip club. I didn't see much going on at all. Is this the famous 33 OR is there another area right behind the san diego mall across the underpass? Does LA 33 mainly cater to the higher end strip club crowd or are there blue collar type establishments/outdoor beer bars in that area?
Thank You. I should know this but I don't.
3. Are the cross country buses "freezing" like in mexico?
Thank you for your responses.

.
Nop is not that close to San Diego. Is in another direction check the address in the map so you can have a good idea.
And is not that fancy either, Strip Clubs and regular dance clubs are aligned for couple streets. Some of those dance clubs have some freelancers, newbies and freebies, The problem is that they only approach to you if they like you, other wise you won't know who is for rent and who is just a normal civilian girl. Usualy the newbies like to have a good dance few drinks and then go with you to your hotel. But you have so show some play and apparency and they will tell you straight.
Some SWs are around, some very cute ones, but always varies a lot.
I didn't try them because my friends always say many of them are "travos" (transvestites)
And yes there are some cafes with chairs outside and stuff.
The Strip Clubs are cheap,
San Diego and Fase Dos are the highest that I know.
I hope this help some.

3 strip clubs
Yesterday around midnight, I went to Maracaibo and La Barra, which I think is the new name of Las Americas (Calle 53 con 49, see Medellin list). I couldn't find a single pretty girl there. Very low quality. And a lot of low class local guys (not threatening though). Bad neighborhood.
Then I went to Apoteosis club. The address changed and is now: calle 44 (San Juan) No 68 - 54
The atmosphere is much better than the Calle 53 clubs but the girls are not good either, ranging from 5-7.
Entry charge 10'000 COP = 2 drinks.
Price is 70k for 30 minutes and not for an hour! (unless I got tooled, which is possible but it was the only girl I liked). 140 for an hour (almost same price as Fase2 for much lower quality)
Rooms are very bad with a tiny bed

However, since this is not your first time you should know that it is not advisable to stay in Centro at night!

A night to remember
A night to remember in El Centre Calle Caracas lastnight. Those who have been to Hostal Odeon might know this place. A centro commercio on the right side, after exit of Odeon same line. It has a rock bar in mezannine floor and few others. Did have quite the night there all the way through today lunch time. It definately helps if you speak spanish and avoid the tacky Colombia west comparison. Met a petite spinner whom I have never seen on my previous visits there. She told she usually works in another bar ground floor. Bought along her friend, Was there around 11pm as I arrived late from Bogota. Had a blast and overall damage from lastnight through today lunch COP 80K, excluding the hostal fees. Hope to go there again on Wednesday or through Christmas holidays. Fellow mongers remember these arent prepagos so you have to play your cards right and dream on. I think I am in love LOL. My first manage trois with normal 7/8s girls in Medellin.
Heading to El Poblado tonight to get some shawarma and probably end up in Barrio Colombia? Anyone been to Kukaramakara or Karma? Thoughts on freebies there. Pleasant holidays all.

Can someone add to this ? I thought this was an interesting read.
The last time I was in Medellin there was the smell of pot everywhere.
Is this not the case anymore?
It's amazing how some of these SA countries do an about face.

La 33

Artisttyp
Well if my memory helps me. I'm almost sure. Drinks are 5k, Anfitrion doesn't charge cover. Dance Clubs are 10K one drink on the house. Drinks inside 7k or so.
I think I said the prices for the pros. 50k hr, some girls 70k, room 10k some of them, some are already included.

Apoteosis had a very cute and hot dancer the day I was there, but she had no tities at all, she was the only one I liked, Day was very slow, first day in the new address.
La 53 has god number of cheap clubs, but yes, they are not that good.
Problem is that you need to be lucky to find an 8, I was lucky some days, some others I just touched base and fly.
That is exactly what I meant when I said that some days I don't want to be driving around. Taxi cabs are not free and at the end you spend more money looking for diamonds under the rocks.

Thank you for your responses.
Although few acceptable choices in Centro, the Gran Hotel is a good place to stay. (Rates around 100,000 CoP.)
Although few acceptable choices in Centro, the Gran Hotel is a good place to stay. (Rates around 100, 000 CoP.)
Thanks. I know the Gran Hotel. I might have been the one that mentioned it two years ago. If I am wrong please excuse me.
What I don't like about the Gran Hotel is that it is located off of "oriental". When it gets late at night and you are in the plaza botero area it can be a LONG DARK walk to oriental. Passing parque bolivar at 1am is no fun trust me. I don't like being tied down to taxis either.
There are some hotels a few blocks from botero plaza and the metro. I will investigate these on this upcoming trip.
I'm not paying $60 and up to stay in laureles when I can get the same for around $25 in the centro.
However "yes" safety is an issue.

Artisttyp,
I don't think you'll have a problem getting a room, but do you REALLY want to stay in the Centro? Have you been there at night? It's Zombie's town at night. There are literally NO normal people on the street at night and it's very dangerous. A friend of mine was staying at the Nutibara the other day and he told me that the rooms were US$50/night. For that rate or little more, you can as well stay in one of the smaller hotels in Poblado, where you can actually walk around at night without getting mugged.
Just my 5 cents worth.

It's amazing how some of these SA countries do an about face.
Is the same. And girls love that too.
I was in a open concert by Las Lleras with a girl, she loves reggae and invited me, so the whole park was smelly and people smoking at will. We when to a reggae club some other time (forgot the name) and I had to leave because even if you don't smoke, the air is so thick you get dizzy very soon.
So yes, is exactly the same as before, the Amsterdam from Latin America.
PD: Weird. All clubs in Medellin are free smoking, (I love that, they should do this in BAs, people there are the most heavy smokers in LatAmc), but how this club managed to get a permit for smoking pot? Who knows.
