It's been a long day. Arrived at the airport at 4 am, took a connection in Panama City into Medellin. It's the shortest itinerary from the Caribbean, no non stops unfortunately. Easy flights though. Got into Medellin around 11:30 am. I have a driver waiting to pick me up and decide to hit an ATM at the airport just to have something in hand. By the way the cambios were offering 2600 cop to 1 usd and the current rate today was 3430. I laughed at them. Tried two ATM's but the fee was high and it wouldn't show me the rate it was offering, so I hit cancel, but the second ATM gave me the money anyway and ignored that cancel request. Whatever, not a big deal, I have Schwab, the fees will be returned. Super fast into the city, like 20 minutes in the tunnel and I'm at the Airbnb.

Airbnb was super flexible, cleaning lady was finishing up, let me check in early. I'm already wacked out from not sleeping the night before but try to find the closest ATM, walk 5-6 minutes and find one but the max limit is 400 k. Fuck it, already here, take out 400 K. Again, the fees get returned so not a big deal. I see some simcards hanging from a window and go check it out, find out one of the travel phones I bought off eBay is actually not unlocked so that's annoying. Walk back to the Airbnb to get the second travel phone I bought for exactly these kinds of stupid situations. I always have a backup of the backup. I get side tracked unpacking, setting up the firestick on the TV and turns out after 2 hours of messing around with the TV, the landlord, the maintenance guy, the TV HDMIs are broken, so they bring over a new TV.

I decide to head to Santa Fe mall to see what that's about and to go to a cell store to get the local phone situation squared away. This is around 2:30 pm and the traffic is horrendous and the uber driver is also really confused. We decide fuck this, and I ask him to take me to Carulla, I'll do some grocery shopping and do the mall tomorrow. ATM here lets me take 600 k. Head into the supermarket, its gorgeous out. 45 minutes later on the way out with 5 full bags, its a downpour but there happens to be a yellow taxi right outside, and I have my hands full of bags, so instead of messing with Uber, I decide to try it out. Turns out to be totally fine and 5500 pesos back to Airbnb.

It's probably around 5:30 pm or so and I order Rappi, comes in 30 minutes, super solid for 20 k pesos, its easily 2-3 meals for $5-6. I forget the name of the place but it was half a chicken, potatoes and arepas. Simple and filling, it's all I needed after not eating all day because airport food is garbage. Definitely going to be using Rappi often, too convenient.

I'm showered, fed, have beers, rum and some snacks in the house plus a ton of shit to cook. Now that the landlord is out of the way, I started texting some chicas I've been in contact with. My first pick is not available but we confirm for tomorrow, we'll see if that happens but understandable. Next pick won't be back in Medellin until 10 pm and honestly I'm exhausted so I was trying to go to bed by 10 pm. She wants to hang out tomorrow but now I made those other plans so we confirm for Thursday and chat for a little. Again, we'll actually see if that happens. Driver from airport to airbnb, we agreed on 80 k pesos a few weeks ago, when I confirmed this morning, he said the tolls have gone up so its now 95 k pesos. I just assume he's lying but honestly, I don't actually know, and it's $5, I told him I wasn't happy about it changing last minute, and I won't use him for the return trip (I didn't say that part to him of course).

Driver: 95 k pesos.

Rappi: 20 k pesos.

Uber: 8 k pesos.

Taxi: 5500 pesos.

Carulla: 303 k pesos (I bought a lot of stuff, including cheeses, BBC beers, Ron Medellin 12 year, salmon, camarones, olive oil, etc it was slightly less than stateside but I like to cook so its important I have stuff on hand. I also like to cook for chicas because it changes the entire dynamic and works 100% of the time) It's easily days worth of food and drink.

Chica: 200 k pesos.

Total Day 1: 631,500 pesos. Bank was giving 3314 (calculated from actual withdrawals) so $190. My daily spend budget is more than that, so considering Carulla and the driver won't be happening every day, I'm going to be spending way less here than anticipated.

Bear in mind I was told with ATM is a limit of 300 $ for 2 days with my bank and that is why I am using this Xoom service.
