Thanks Jake, good info. Why will Ipanema be off-limited ? I exactly want to explore Ipanema and Copacabana ! I had choosen the accomodation in Flamengo just to sleep a couple of hours but will be out to Lapa, Ipanema & Copa en anywhere where I feel the vibe no matter the distance.
Espalunca sounds pretty cool and will hop in for sure this weekend.

botequims are street cafes. sucos (fruit juice) bars are similar but more of a stand up affaitr. flamengo is pretty safe. good for you stitching pockets inside your pants - that´s what i do (brasilians sometimes just pick the lining to make somewhere to store a little cash.) just carry what you need. i carry small notes in a rubber band so it is obvious i am not carrying much. if i need a little more for something else, i carry it in a different pocket, in a pocket down the front of my pants, or even in my shoes (a plastic cover helps if you do this). in the unlikely event you are mugged, they need to find the easiest thing that makes it worth their while, after which they will generally leave you alone. you can afford to lose 100r in such circumstances.

for expensive clubs, you can wear any fancy clothes you like, especially in carnaval. if you wear shorts, something bought in brasil looks better than anything from abroad. i am still trying to figure out why one particular pair i have is especially good for pulling chicks. but if you wear designer, that is cool too, especially brands recognised in brasil. shirts - why not just buy a couple when you get here? cheap ones from centro market by uruguiana station, expensive ones from ipanema or somewhere fairly classy like hobi club on barata ribeiro (by siqueira campos station). carnaval shirts are also cool this time of year. i quite like the ready made stich on or iron pockets - just started bringing one with me, pick up a needle and thread locally and add it to whatever i buy here.

transport - if you are streetwise, taxis in my opinion are a totally unnecessary expense. get one if you go to the opera or a special occasion as you would back home. but rio is a big city and can be confusing and overpowering on a first visit, and taxis are reassuriung to start with. buses travel everywhere, are fast and cheap (have coins or small bills ready - the fare is 2.20 or slightly more if aircon.) get on at the front, pay at the turnstile (or pay driver if no conductor), act normal and not go wow when it accelrates at speed lol, pull th bell in good time and get off at the back.

ps the major important thing on shorts or bermudas as they are called is the length. knee length, not the sort that are worn during the day in oz or mowing the lawn on england`s rare sunny day. short ones, that end well above the knee, are really for women and children. and gringoes of course. even if they are sold in taco. but the brasilians are very forgiving.

I just wanted to know if help is indeed closed?

I spent the last month in Rio. I do not post here due that I feel I don't have much to contribute and would only be writing what has already been posted. However, thought I might warn you guys about a girl in Centauras. Yes I know alot of you guys hate this place. To exspensive, bad girls, whatever. I have a great time in there, many GFE's. Charlie the bartender is great and the girls in the locker room are nice.

Met a girl there "Laura" in Jan. Everything started out normal. Screened her properly and had a great GFE with her. Without asking she gave me her phone number to hang out later at Melt. We were going to Nossa Semhora that night so I told her maybe another time. After my session with her I started to feel that she would be clingy so I for sure did not want to hang out with her outside of Centauras.

Two days later my friend and I show up at Cent. She is immediately all over me. I tell her I want some space and would like to spend some time with other girls. She understands my weak portuguese but is still all over me kissing me telling me how much she likes me, doesn't want to go upstairs, just wants to spend time with me outside the club, blah, blah, blah. She continues to stick her tounge down my throat as I am trying to get away from her. It is starting to cause a scene and people are staring at us. Now she is grabbing me and not letting me walk away. She put scratch marks on my chest and was pulling my robe off. One of the girls that I know told me to come with her and she would tell her boss. She pulls me away from Laura and go to the relax room where my friend tells the boss what is happening (for those of you who have seen the female that runs the girls in Centauras she is in great shape, muscular and looks like she could kick some a$$). The boss lady immediately runs into the bar. I stayed in the relax room for a while. After that I had no more problems with Laura.

Maybe someone here has had a good experience with her. She is either crazy, high on drugs (my opinon) or both.

I understand the girls can be extremely jelous, however this experience was over the top. Laura is a gorgeous girl and the $&* was fantastic but she was absolutely crazy. I have had experiences with jelous girls (to include terma girls) in Rio but she was over the top.

No dude, they are just closed for renovations. They will be openning up at the end of the month. If you wear a Brazil national soccer jersey with the "S" instead of the "Z", you don"t have to pay entrance fee.

Also, Free drinks alll night long for the first week they open. Have fun! Wish I could be there. RTFF!

I love Açai. I am the Açai specialist. Best place is Bibi Sucos Leblon, Copacabana, etc. There is an even better place in Flamengo for the specialists who has the REAL pure strong Açai straight from Belem. Tacaca do Norte, across from Hotel Barão de Flamengo. But it is not cold, smoothy like, but much more concentrated. Oh, this is near scort show agency, where you can see the book and the new girls on a street corner if you made an appointment.

Personally, I have trained some juice bars to make Açai for me with "menos xarope" or "sem xarope", less guaraná sirup or none. I think the regular stuff is too sweet. No sirup needs to get a small serving of sirup to add it yourself.

Granola is best as a topping on the side, you sprinkle it yourself. Banana also is best as slices on the side.

I already saw dozens and personally did half a dozen of Help and Barbarella girls for R$ 15 to R$ 40.

Thanks for the intel. Can you share some names of these brothels where you fucked former HELP/Barbarella girls for less than 40 reais? Sounds like that place in Centro that charges 1 reais per minute, but want to verify. Because of ridiculously high airline prices out of Atlanta, I was thinking of skipping Rio this year, but if that can be offset by fucking HOT former HELP girls for super cheap dollars, I will reconsider. From what I've been reading, the rate at Balcony pretty much starts at 200 reais.

I've been on the stage with the strippers at Barbarellas several times in years past, the girls dug it, I danced with them, we had fun.
