I often think about the children of rich men. They have the expectation to be rich. If they are not rich then they will do whatever it takes to be rich. On the other hand the child of a government worker will rise to the level of government worker and then be content; not needing to rise further. A child of the streets will similarly expect to struggle for money and once obtained a level of expected wealth, will seek to fight to maintain it.

Can you see that I view money differently than you? My life has never been one of lack. If I run low on money I know that a minimal effort will right the balance. I will not worry about $100 ever. It is like a monopoly game to me. I expect to have money and I have it. You expect to fight for money and you fight. It is all down to our expectations.

A little over 6 months ago I ran into a guy in the Lowes parking lot near my house. He said he was an Army veteran (showed me his DD-214 discharge papers). These guys that stayed in the military have not much to show for it. They risked their lives in defense of the country. Some went on to serve in desert storm and other hot wars. Read The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen. He talks about how doing something small every day (something that doesn't tax your time and energy too much daily) will build up and give dividends before you know it.

The first thing I'd recommend, though, is to download Anki, a free open source flashcard program, and start adding sentences and words to it. Buy the Frequency book on Spanish which has the top most used 5000 words. When you're at the start of the journey, you don't want to waste time learning less used words.

Listen to youtube channels, like Why Not Spanish, Dreaming in Spanish, Butterfly Spanish (cute little Mexican girl, in a next-door-girl kind of a way). There is also Marie Espanol. Also search for Duo Lingo podcast (not the duo lingo Spanish software. It's a little silly and makes you think you're making progress). The Duo Lingo podcast, on the other hand, are stories told by native Spanish speakers, spoken in intermediate speed, so you have a half way chance of following along. And they provide the transcripts, so you can look at it while listening.

If you want to spend money, buy Rocket Spanish program. I bought the third level (last level) because I had already gained a lot of progress, but you might start the first level. Great program, but a little expensive at 150 a level.

Takes time. But so fucking worth it.

It has a free version and an paid that works offline. It is designed for anyone (any idiot like me) it builds you up slowly from simple to complex sentences. Because Spanish and English pronounce vowels and some consonants differently, and because Spanish has some diphthong vowel sounds we don't have etc, trying to memorize written words is useless if you do not know the pronunciation. Duolingo is an app that will pronounce it for you and give you practice pronouncing also by you speaking into the app. Then there is the conjugation of verbs in spanish, once you get the hang of the vowel sounds, and as you come across new verbs you may want to download some conjugation charts off the web so you can memorize the different conjugations. Duolingo is going to go through them but I find it handy to also have the charts. Then use your time in Medellin to practice, I guarantee that once you get a good start on the app and then start practicing in Medellin, every chica you spend time with will be your spanish teacher. I have been doing Duolingo for a few months now, I am by no means fluent, but when in Medellin the chicas do not hesitate to correct me and help me out. I started doing the French on Duolingo first and did a sizable amount of the French but once I jumped over yo the Spanish than it seemed easy after trying the French.

She did say earlier in the day that it is Sunday and she doesn't want to stay out too late, and I'm feeling the same as I was pretty tired, but she agrees to come hang out for a little longer. I've traveled extensively and I think the value for your dollar is the best here of anywhere I have been. I have been to Nepal and Bali etc where things are cheaper, but the quality is also lower which is why I say the Value is the best, it is not the cheapest of anywhere, but Medellin offers the quality I want, in food, women, convenience, familiar grocery items, the things I would need in a place to want to live there, for an incredibly low cost.

Keep in mind that most of the "locals" who go with these girls, will probably be at home, and you will probably have the "pick of the liter" from the Venezuelans who are out working. If I am around then, I will be out fishing for sure.

I have zero romantic interest in the two families I help. One family I am running a sari sari store with. They report the income and expenses to me and I do the accounting. I bought the land and built the store for them and now we are just starting to run the store but I have known her and her family for years.
