I can't comment on why you had problems.

I arrived, got the account, I have also transferred it within the BKK bank to different branches about 4 times with no hassles.

I did it in 2013 February, and I am an EU passport holder (among 2 others, but use the EU passport here only).

If you provide similar info, then maybe we can compare notes, or maybe its useless. Sometimes, as you know.

You can get two or three different story from the bank or immigration or whoever, in Thailand, depending on who you speak to at the same building!

There is a limit of USD 20 000 below which you do not have to declare you are importing or exporting cash. Above that amount you need to make a declaration at the Customs office.
