Medellin Reports

Apologies for jumping on the COVID-19 bandwagon, but I'm curious as to what type of advice I can get from this community.

I am scheduled to fly back to the US on Wednesday.

I have a stop in PTY, on the way to LAX.

I live in a high-rise in another metropolitan area.

I can work remotely.

Can anyone provide a strong argument as to why I wouldn't just extend my stay in Medellin? I'm not worried about contracting / surviving, as much as I am just returning to chaos, and having to live a miserable existence until things calm down. I agree that we will likely see a spike in Colombia, as testing becomes more available. However, I can walk down the street to Exito, and buy enough supplies / food for a month, for $200. I can rent long-term for very cheap. I can use Uber to get around, or walk. If things start getting whacky, or the general public starts to live in fear, I would probably select a couple girls to be exclusive with in the interim.

I read American Airlines cancelled flights to Colombia / South America. I would imagine that the dominoes will fall, starting tomorrow. So, I should probably make a decision, today.

I'll write a report tonight / tomorrow, but had an amazing / free TLN FS with a Vennie from Conejitas.

I agree with you except for the part about testing. Positive or negative result the best practice is the same and there is no treatment or cure. Avoid crowds and practice good hygiene until it's over. No visits to the estadio for me anytime soon.

If you need to be in Los Angeles you are better off leaving now. If not, my choice would be to stay put and avoid the airport and flights, but I am a Centro rat.

They are staffed with world class doctors who specialize in this. In the USA more country specific info is at CDC.

You are correct. No fee changes are offered. Avianca and viva are operating normally but Preisdent Duque is barred foreigners who are non residents and even citizens who are foreign residents until further notice.

I learned more up-to-date information about Colombia through this site than any other source. I wish I have been stuck in Medellin, that would make me the happiest man on earth. I'm 3 weeks to early.

Officials are too late, really, with border closures but given how quickly its done with little warning I'll wait this out until the WHO announces the pandemic is over which could go onto a second flu season.

This is the last chance to get into heaven before the door shuts indefinitely. . I debating, the last flight leaves sfo around 8 pm today. Most of the responsible posts on this topic have a point, I respect the lives of the elderly people. I will most likely stay put, read a few good books and celebrate Beethoven's 250th birth anniversary. But man, hearing this news felt like someone just punched me in the face.

Colombia is trying to stay ahead of the curve. This ban, combined with many airlines reducing or stopping flights, gives them a chance to minimize the severity. I don't know if they will succeed, but they seem to be making the right moves. If they succeed, the medical system won't be overwhelmed.

The US, however, is way behind the curve. It will be another week before widespread testing begins. By that time, there could easily be over 1 million infected. That could mean up to 200,000 hospitalized by the beginning of April. The number doubles every 6 days.

In addition, with no foreigners entering and many leaving, combined with the exchange rate leaves you in an enviable position. It's definitely going to be a buyer's market.

In Medellin it's also possible to get anything you need delivered. Anything. Need condoms, mayonnaise, rum, Viagra and a giant double dildo? Grab your phone and in 30-45 minutes it will be at your door.

Guys, have been pining on here for years for the glory days when gringos were rare in Medellin. Well, now they got your wish, I will enjoy it for them.
