Yesterday several board members wrote that travel from Europe had been banned when in fact people would be quarantined for 2 weeks on arrival. So they were in fact wrong. Last night that changed when Duque announced they would be barred, but that was after you guys posted! And this will apply from Monday.
Anyway, it will good thing that the borders will be closed to new arrivals, to slow the spread of the virus here.
Yesterday I read so much panic mongering here and news elsewhere about the virus that I had a rotten day! So, after this posting I'm going to try to not read this forum anymore for a while, and just read the facts and stay away from all the panic and speculation. In fact the only way this virus is affecting me is by all the reading I'm doing, not in any other way!
I'm going to trust my instincts. I have 6 weeks left of my trip. I'm not rushing off back to Belgium where I've been told there's no pasta, rice or water left in the supermarkets and where I'm sure life is much worse than here at the moment!
I'm not very worried about catching the virus, but am a bit worried that I might have trouble getting home or am treated differently or with suspicion here because I'm a foreigner in this situation.
Hopefully, the airline situation will be clearer in 6 weeks than it is now. And so far, I'm the only one mentioning this to Colombians, they aren't talking about it to me. And the supermarkets here are full.
Anyway, worst case scenario is you could get put on a flight back home like the Spanish person who ignored their quarantine yesterday, but you won't be left to rot in some Colombian dungeon! So great, in that case they will be doing the hard work for me! And that's only if they decide to retroactively expel foreigners who've been here longer than 2 weeks!?
And to AdventurSeekr who said I am recklessly infecting everyone just by being here walking around, I have no idea what planet you're on! Do you assume everybody has got the virus or something? And how am I selfish and have no regard for other people by just behaving normally?
And by the way I'm in another city here right now, not in Medellin, and for the next few days I will just take it easy, see how things evolve and resist mongering. And if I do it will be with a few chicas. By the way I think I'm the only gringo around, so it's not like there are hoards of us 'smashing' the local hookers and infecting them with the Corona virus. And don't confuse the corona virus with STDs!

I made the decision that 10 days would be the longest I should stay from that date. I ended up leaving 2 days ago on Friday as I had the feeling Monday (tomorrow) would end up being an important day internationally. I didn't anticipate as much action over the weekend as we have had.
1. Colombia closes borders to foreigners, citizens entry requires quarantine.
2. American Airlines cancels all flights. 2 a. I think its safe to say other airlines will do the same.
3. OHare airport takes 10 hours to clear baggage and customs because of checks. People are standing around in a closed environment with hundreds of others for 10 hours. How do we think that's going to play out?

All infected or symptomatic people should be isolated for 14 days.

Citizens may transit public roads between 5 AM and 9 PM only to:

How about someone start a fresh new thread Called "Corona Virus 2020"? This way everyone that wants to talk about it can gather there. It will help future newbies trying to gather information related to chicas. Also with so much information coming in daily about this virus, I can see this Medellin Report section with about 50 pages of going back and forth about the virus. Let's move it elsewhere.

The visual map is somewhat misleading also simply because the size of the "red" circles on the map do not correlate to anything geographically. Meaning size wise, if a circle on the map looks like it covers 1000 sqr miles / kms. It doesn't mean that 1000 sqr area is blanketed with Covid-19 coronavirus cases. And this is demonstrated when you scroll in and the circle gets smaller as the area you are zooming in gets bigger.

NY and CA have not gone into lockdown, not even been suggested. The governor of California called for (not ordered) all bars to shut down, all restaurants to reduce capacity by half, and anyone 65 and over to go into home isolation. New York hasn't ordered any action statewide related to the virus, except maybe limiting crowd size. Illinois and Ohio probably took the most drastic action. The governors of those states ordered all restaurants and bars to close, with only drive-thru service open.
