WAY OFF TOPIC of this thread so I apologize.... but.... having an interest in a pharmacy, I'll tell you that buying pills in India compared to landed costs are huge. The taxation and laws regarding generic medicines are a nightmare in some countries, again lobbyists in various countries by the medical industries set these up. The theory is that the profits are funneled into future medical break through and advancement in medicinal practices. If that's the case or not you could debate it forever.

The second issue is that there is reputable generic and then there is generic generic in India. You do NOT want the generic generic versions as they are almost identical copies / fakes of the generics in terms of packaging and looks but in reality their chemical content is so obscure it is scary.

To make most mongers feel better, most Pharmacies I've gone into in Thai are using reputable firms and Thai has a very large Pharmaceutical industry itself. Surprisingly many medicines made in Thai are cheaper then the ones made in Philippines and some are getting close (in price and quality) to the reputable Indian companies in my opinion and we are now using some Thai Pharmaceuticals.

The mark up appears to be high (80% how did you figure that one??? 400% mark up if selling at 80 baht right?) I agree, but there were also some major crack down on illegally imported generics recently in Thai.

Just ask your bell man where the local "Guava" go to buy pills. But people are spending how much on airfare and then on hotels and then on girls, they should not worry about a few days of jelly.

6 days x 60 baht (supposedly the mark up without taxation / shipping / bribes etc... 80 baht - 20 baht price) x 2 time a day = 720 baht

The folks who monger in Thailand are lucky for these costs IMHO and Pattaya is cheaper then in BKK usually for pharmaceuticals so if you are going to both stock up on your antibiotics and other med's in Pattaya to take home with you.

Anyway, I always buy my drugs in India now, and get amazing prices for generic medicines. I have yet to find a drug that isn't sold somewhere (not that I have tried that hard), although as someone will soon point out, the concern might be in bringing them back to your home country.

You might get slight headaches, an acidy stomach (take tums) and/or very slight vision impairment but these symptoms are temporary and normal (so I'm told) and well worth the affect of the mighty blue vitamin. pattaya trip report

i have just retruned from my third trip to los, and first trip to pattaya.

Healthy living is a difficult topic, My colleague's idea of healthy living is a good pack of cigarettes a day, beer and pizzas or burgers.
