Medellin Reports

I believe the USA State Department announcement is a response to intense criticism from USA Nationals who report they are unable to get consular services or even contact embassies. This announcement says "you are on your own if you stay where the State Department is obligated to service you in exchange for the tax dollars we will continue collecting from you". As far as secret information, I'm not sure what that can be since worldwide media is constantly reporting about the growing number of infections. Unless I misinterpret what has been confirmed by various organizations including the USA CDC and WHO, 2 out of 10 infected people will develop symptoms that range from severe to fatal, and most of that 20% are elderly and / or suffer from pre-existing conditions. What did I miss?

I won't miss New Life but I was really bummed out that Botaniko shut down earlier this week. The New Life closure makes sense to me because of the high percentage of foreigners who frequent it. The same is true of food and beverage places in Poblado and Provenza. We saw many of them shut down a week or more ago. The talked about protecting the health of the republic but I think it is more about a big part of their clientele no longer patronizing them.

It seems that the public is getting on-edge with the impending quarantine, and I feel like everyone I talk to is asking me how long I've been here. This is actually Day 14, for me, and my f'ing portero is downstairs with a mask and gloves on, yapping at me about being in quarantine. I was just going out to buy some food to last through the weekend.

Anyhow, has anyone in Medellíand made a decision regarding to quarantine with a chica or not to quarantine with a chica? Tonight through Tuesday is a long time to be alone, and who knows if they decide on Monday to extend it. The flip side is: do I want to be with a single chick for 4 days?

I'm sure anyone that is keeping an eye on things has noticed, but I woke up to a Copa Airlines email that travel has been banned until April 21. Oddly enough, I changed my flight from March 18 to April 18. Now, I get a credit, but not sure how it will work. They changed my flight for no fee, originally. So, I'm not sure if I will get $150 towards a $600 flight in late-April / May, or what. I don't feel like sitting on hold, any time soon. I had the pleasure of doing that a few days ago.

I have some local friends, and all of them are scared straight about the quarantine. I half-heartedly offered to host a BBQ for 1-3 people, maybe to see the reaction, and everyone either thought I was kidding or tried to implement their own coronavirus thoughts on me. Some working girl (from my November / December reports) was recently in Cartagena, working, and went back home to her sister's. Today, she was basically telling me that the coronavirus is spread by white-yellow-brown-black devil tourists. She said Colombia has it because tourists come and don't know they have it. I said, every country aside from China had it arrive from some one, right?

Ok, enough BSing. I need to decide in the next couple of hours if I want to have a girl stay for the weekend. The Conejitas Vennie wants to come over, but I don't know if I want her here for multiple days. Another from earlier in my trip said she'd come over, this weekend. What is the vibe or intel on taxi / uber during the quarantine?

Taxi / uber will operate, the metro as well. Remember people are allowed out for essential errands or if they work in certain jobs. I did get an e-mail from uber that says they won't operate at the airport after 8 PM until 5 AM, no date limits included. There are only a few domestic flights so there can't be much demand. I wonder if the airport buses are running.

I think you would regret shacking up with a girl for three days. I think you would also have a hard time getting one to agree to it unless she is homeless, which brings me back to my first statement about regret. My advice is to lean on your contacts or the escort services. Rappi is operating so I'm sure those services are as well. The streets did empty pretty quickly starting at 5 PM.
