[/QUOTE]Actually there were some aspects of the old days in Bangkok which were definitely not great. How about the vicious pollution? I doubt I could stay in Bangkok back then at my advanced age now! And the trip to the airport? Could be 2 hours, could be 5 - it was a real roulette as to when to leave to catch your plane.

There was no escaping the traffic. Walking along Sukumvit was not pleasant before they brought in the pollution controls (mainly due to cabs and tuktuks having to use LPG). There was no Skytrain or Underground and so if you wanted to go to anywhere beyond walking distance you had to spend hours in a cab. If you were really stupid, you spent it in a Tuk Tuk where, for free, they overcharged you and you got to sample some of the most toxic air known then to man. I distinctly remember women walking along the street with handkerchiefs pressed into their faces because of the terrible air.

I also remember running into quite a few girls who were not that good in the sack back then. The availability of porn through electronic means has had a lot to do with the improvement in that department. I also remember getting much more stomach problems in those old days.
