Actually, you end up at the jeepney depot between SM and Fields. From there it is a short five minute walk to Fields.

First the bad. I flew in from Australia and the Margarita Station car was waiting for me as promised (nice car, good driver and Margarita Station is a very professional, well run organization).

I had booked Donald Paul Apartelle and had confirmed the booking several times (including the day before) with Steve Phillips from the hotel.

Imagine my surprise when I get to the hotel around 9pm (pretty tired from a long trip) and was told there was no booking and the hotel was full! After all my years of travelling, I had never encountered that before.

Luckily I still had the car and driver, so we spent the next half hour driving around other hotels – and being Saturday night they were all full. They said “sorry sir” but Steve Phillips has been busy and didn’t put the booking in. Great!

What also annoyed me was I left my Philippines cell number with the Donald Paul Apartelle and requested they give me a call the next day. Of course, no call. Also I emailed Steve Phillips again to ask him what happened. No response. Good service huh!!!

After a lot of driving around eventually found a new hotel (only five months old), the Savannah Resort Hotel, just a bit further down from Fields than Lewis and ABC. I’m very impressed with this hotel; a very modern and relatively luxurious room with a great “rain” shower, decent pool and very friendly staff. My room which faces the pool is very quiet and a reasonable price, 2500p with 7 days stay discount.

Me too never had a problem with bar bill in AC. This includes the change they bring back. Only thing is sometimes the waitress will try to get a bigger tip.
And if you spend a long time there they think you owe them a bigger tip because she pointed out a better girl for you and took care of you etc.
It is possible that sometimes we forget how many Girl drinks we ordered. In many bars now there are two types of girl drinks. One which cost 150 pesos and the other 300 pesos. So when you order the drink tell the waitress you want to buy only 150 pesos drink unless you want the girl get drunk.
Even then take the girl out to other bars to get her drunk and the cost will be less. Or stock up the room with drinks purchased in supermarket.
Beware most of these girls do not have the stomach for too much alcohol
and they will be sleeping it off. In my experience only very few girls can tolerate more than couple of real drinks.
Always remember it is the duty of the waitress to make sure your bar bill is high but not by doing the wrong math. The bill is right in front of you and you can keep checking it. If you are on a budget I suggest strongly that you do.
As we all know the whole atmosphere makes us spend more than we bargained for one way or another.
