Hua Hin

I like the very honest assessments Llantarnum has provided if you are after bright lights etc..stay away, and his 35%/35%/25%/5% analysis! Heres the thing: Im in my early 60s but very fit, young in mind and heart and definitely want some mongering activity daily. When I go to Pattaya I stay in Pratumnak or Jomtien because Pattaya is too loud, too busy, and only 10 mins in a Bolt so I can pop in for the fun and return to civilisation for a nice quiet breakfast in the morning, stroll along an empty beach etc. Ive even found myself preferring the mongering in Jomtien. Ok its not got the 8/10 and 9/10s of Walking Street, but I still find the odd gem and Im quite happy with one each night and am happy to put in some legwork to find her! So what Im reading about the Scottish guy arriving in Hua Hin for a few nights and being there 2 weeks later still sounds like the sort of thing Id do!

So overall Im thinking it cannot hurt to make the journey and see somewhere new. On that basis, whats the best upmarket hotel in Hua Hin and best located? Budget isnt an issue - Im over on business and as its my business I dont have a cap and legitimately claim it on business travel. So luckily the Skys the limit! But no point me choosing on Expedia the best hotel for 30 miles around only to discover its not walking distance to anything! So would appreciate some help rather than just hitting Trivago and picking a most central Hilton for example.

I am like you. Similar in vintage and MO. So this is what I would say. As long as you are happy with a major decrease in quantity and quality go to Hua Hin. Stay at Hyatt or The Standard. Being who you are there will prob be enough in Soi Bint / Soi 80/ Poon Suk Rd and Wonderland but it may be difficult to find quality. The beauty of Bangkok & Patts is choice. Its easy. Point and shoot, if you are prepared to compromise on pussy then maybe consider HH.

I stayed at G Hua Hin. Nice 5/10 min stroll to Wonderland and back. Tuk Tuk rides plus baht busses on Main Road too so no issues with transport.

Also there is a taxi place right in front, so you can get a ride anywhere. The standard is also a good choice. Hua Hin is easy to get around.

Personally, I wouldn't bother going for a couple of days, but if you fancy a change there's plenty of accommodation to choose from. You're probably best staying in the middle of town near Soi 61, so you could try:

1) The Hilton (£110 / night).

2) Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas (£110).

3) The Standard (£90 for normal room or 230 for Villa with private pool).

4) Marriott (£135, but a bit of a walk to the action).

5) Baan Nilrath (25 - budget hotel but very nice and in a good location).

Just a quick note of thanks to all who responded with thoughts / comments and suggestions on hotels.

I think I've decided that I'll get to BKK, go to Pattaya as planned and see what it's like. If not as good as my trip in the sunshine of April (Songkran was fun but became too much) I'll head to HH. If the old Ferry from PTY to HH was still running I wouldn't hesitate. It's not so its a good 5 hours from Pattaya so I'll like do a night in Bangkok. I prefer Silom / Thaniya to Sukumvit despite not being Asian) and then if BKK is not looking great and the weather is ok (a lot of ifs and buts) I'll do a few days in HH. In which case the least I could do is then report back. Thanks guys. Much appreciate the feedback.

Good thing about G Hua Hin is its walking distance to Market Village Shop centre. Staff were great, buffet bfast good, pool is awesome. Its hard to falter.

G Hua Hin is a little out of town but a 15 min tuk tuk fare easily took acre of that- and its close to Wonderland and massage shops on side Road.

Its a bit like the landmark Hotel in BKK. Yeah its nice but there are plenty other really good options at cheaper prices around. I don't like when OS places try to rip Westerners off.

G Hotel gets good reviews, but the obvious drawback is its location. Fine for a stroll up to wonderland, but a long way from the town center. I think the novelty of trying to flag down a tuk tuk (and having to haggle about the price) every time you want to go somewhere would soon wear off.

Very nice hotel with good rates during low season. Regarding being far away from town, I never spent more than 75 baht for a Grab taxi app to get to Bintabaht area and most parts of town. The taxi drive / ride is only approximately five minutes. Also, many full service massage shops across the street. Reasonably priced laundry place directly across the street. Very good morning buffet if you pay in advance to have it included. Guest friendly.

AFAIK Green, Red and Yellow will take you to clock tower (Bintabaht just 4 min walk from there) - 20 baht = not even 1 Aussie dollar.

But stops around 9/10 each night which is a bummer.

I went to WOW Leelawadee about 19:00 last night. I took a Bolt as it was 25 minutes to walk and raining - 5 minutes and 67 Baht for the Bolt. Loads of Bolt cars showing on the app so transport not a problem in Hua Hin. Hua Hin is really quiet, Soi Bintabaht did not have many customers when I did a walk through Sunday night. Quite a few good looking young ladies sitting alone. Target rich environment if you are into the bargirl scene.

It advertises itself as a bar and club as well as a soapy but there was nobody else. 8 or 9 ladies came out for line up, maybe 2 not for me by my less than low standards. If they say 1 then 2000 is quite enough in HH even at soapy.

But as I say your money your choice.

Just got back from spending a little over two weeks in Hua Hin. I was with a girlfriend the whole time so was not actively mongering. My observations were that not a lot has changed in the last two years that I have been visiting Hua Hin. The talent level is mostly average with a few young 7 and 8's scattered in the mix. I did see some 9's, but they were always with someone. So I believe those were outside talent brought in as vacation girlfriends. Lots of bars on Soi Bentabaht, Soi 80, and Soi 94 empty with girls sitting around bored. A part of Soi 94 is having construction of drainage lines so avoid that area. It is still low season so that explains the lack of customers. Hua Hin is not for everyone but if you want a more relaxing atmosphere it is a good place to visit.
