It would seem to me that the way to deal with this crap would simply be to show up at these *****houses with nothing but $5-10 cash (maybe carrying a photocopy of your passport), wearing a T-shirt and gym shorts, leaving your wallet and passport back in the hotel safe.

Actually, Member, that is the best way to visit any brothel.
I almost never carry my wallet or passport(s) anywhere I go, much less into a brothel. Similarly I only carry 1,500 baht or so when going out for the evening in Pattaya. Back home it is standard practice when picking up streetwalkers to remove anything of a personal nature from the car, and keep your wallet in the trunk.

the girl started off giving me a really strange massage, mainly a percussion type of massage of my head. this was obviously to make it difficult for me to hear the thief open the door to get at my gear. and she would place my head so i was looking down at the bed as well, and not so my head was looking back towards the door.
after a few minutes of this absolutely fucked massage, i heard a familiar, but soft clinking of the zipper on my bag. ie, the bag was on the move! i immediately got up off the bed to check the security of the bag, and to my shock, it was gone. holy crap! these guys are good! i didn’t even hear anyone enter the room. i shouted at the girl, “where is my bag” and she pointed out the door. so i looked outside the door and there it was. what a relief! there was my bag, all alone, and the combination lock hadn’t even been tampered with.
so it appears that the game here is to grab your gear while you are doing the deed in the room. remove all your excess cash, and then place your gear back in the room without you even knowing it. very hard to prove that they had stolen anything, so tough luck for you.
for me, the fact that i had discovered my bag was missing within 10 seconds of it actually being moved plus the fact that i had locked it probably saved me. it appears that they were not interested in knicking the bag, because then i definitely would have called the police, and that might have been trouble for them. by the way, the girl acted “shocked” that someone had taken my bag.

second, lock the damned door! the doors have locks on them. use them. third, always carry your valuables into the wash room. again, don’t give the theives access to unattended gear.
fourth, beware red flags like strange massages around the head region; the girl dismissing herself from the room supposedly to take a [url=http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134][CodeWord134][/url], but more likely to inform the thief on where you are stashing your gear in the room.

Maybe yes, maybe no, so best to be on the safe side.
These pimps and gals and their scams are getting more bold and violent (unlike in the past). Just reading back on some of the reports on these places going back only 1 year and you can see some members were threaten with violence when they caught on to their tactics. (from my own experiences, I've NEVER felt totally safe or relaxed at any of these brothels on St63.)
Who knows what they are capable of doing these days if they suspect you are now "cheating them" by not bringing more money with you. Remember these are all crooks and not honest people. A pissed off crook is the worst kind of people.
We all heard news stories even in our own "civilized" home country about muggers beating or killing people simply because you wasted their time without having enough money on you for them to steal. Now we are talking about Cambo, a 3rd world poor nation where the average daily salary is $1-3/day, so who knows what can happen to you.
Like I said before, it's your choice and your life, but at least you have all been warned. For me, I prefer to pay a little extra and enjoy, be relaxed and not having to worry all the while I'm there if someone is going to steal my stuff or put a knife in my back.

In my home country, I take the exact cash I need, and leave my watch at home. No valuables whatsoever. Prior to me implementing this “policy”, I have had $20 cash taken out of my trouser pockets while I was in the shower on 2 occasions, and there was nothing I could do about it. Never again!
As for 3rd world brothels, I always like to take my camera to get pictures of the girls. So I usually take my camera, and some extra cash (minimal), and then keep an eye on them. I always go to SOPEA PHARMACY or VIMOL PHARMACY near the Central Market my first day in town and buy one pack of the current batch in stock and over the next few days dedicate myself to thouroughly testing them.
I have found that there are variations batch to batch in affectiveness and the duration both of the time it takes them to start working and how long the effect lasts.

I suggest people do what I do and purchase a sample and test it out with any of the more than willing research assistants that PP has on offer.

I should have noted in the text of my response that I was answering a question regarding the CHIP LAY HOTEL, around the corner from WALKABOUT.
I was staying in DV8 for 2 nights.
They have about 15 girls I guess. But it is a small pub. So whatever you wanna do with the lady will be visible to all the other customer (if they have) or lady.
