The first time, the taxi guy put his meter on and had me pull up my destination on my phone and then spent 5 - 10 minutes looking at my phone and another 10 minutes asking me questions in Spanish (I had to use google translate since my Spanish was bad). 2/3's of the end meter price was racked up before the car even moved. Until I looked on my maps app and realized we were going the opposite direction for the first half hour. I questioned him and he said we are avoiding traffic. I knew it was BS because we were going south on the freeway, then he just took a you turn and we were going north. For the rest of my first trip and my 2nd and 3rd trip, I used Uber.

It's kind of a pain to wait that extra few minutes for an Uber than to just public taxi, but since I don't look like a local and my Spanish is bad all the taxi cabs just try to take advantage of me. I think there is another app that works for public taxis but makes it so you don't get cheated too.

I don't care about paying extra to use a public cab (the difference is so little) or the more comfortable / cleaner seats on uber, but I do care about the time I wasted. I guess people who look like locals and / or can speak Spanish well will have a different experience.

I was mainly going to the casas, street walkers areas marked on the forum map.
