It's been awhile since I've checked in with the forums. Some interesting recent comments here, with grains of truth in all of them, but also distortions and exaggerations by certain posters.

The main point I want to contribute, or rather remind, is that you guys are simply going to have to do some homework and old-fashioned trial-and-error to find out what works best for you. Because what works great for Ricker or MHL might not work for you at all. Or take someone like Bango Cheito who has some useful comments and observations, but his situation is very unique as an expat musician (and musicians are lucky because of the groupie effect) living and working in BOG, which has certain sectors that have been infested with gringos for years now (due to Plan Colombia and of course, this is the business, political, and cultural center of the country).

Get out of those areas and you can still find colombianas that have never dated a gringo or talked to one, not even online, LOL. Those are the ones you need to find, not the jaded ones that hang out or work in certain chic or tourist-heavy parts of Bogota and Medellin. You might think this corny, but I'll bet you will experience a whole other Colombia (some might even dare to say the real Colombia) outside the teeming cities of BOG & MDE.

There's just one statement that bugs me. At least for me, I don't agree 100% with the statement that "if you don't have game in the states, you won't have any in Colombia." Maybe I'm a strange exception, but I can't possibly be the only one who feels more confident, more relaxed with women once you get off the plane and start speaking in Spanish 99% of the time. Maybe it's the language switch combined with the "adventure" of travel, it's like you adopt another identity. I've never had problems meeting non-pros, in fact, my problem is usually there's too many to juggle, LOL! For me, there's something about latinas that just feels comfortable and right (I've been around them my whole life starting with mom so that has something to do with it I guess) ; and it's just a fantastic feeling to be "at the source" so to speak. And once you've been bitten by the Latin bug, there's no going back to the gringas, even the half-baked latinas you find here in the states don't really cut it for me anymore. Maybe it's just the "magic" or "romance of travel" but I've had a good number of positive experiences outside the states and I suspect there are some other guys out there who have a similar pattern, I can't be the only one!

So I personally wouldn't want to discourage a guy from trying Colombia just because he isn't a casanova in the states. Just the different environment might give a guy a chance to play at being something he's usually not, grow another part of his personality; travel sometimes has this effect. Of course, language is the most important skill, I had that built-in already so maybe that's why my case is somewhat unique.

Speaking of business, what items are easy to transport and sell with a good Return On Investment for a short visit to Colombia?

I was considerring packing 4 or 5 mid to low end computer tablets (coby, google) since this seems to be the latest technology craze here in the states and give or take 50 bucks gain per piece would be acceptable to me or some small pocket digital cameras. But for all I know they already have the same brands available at Exito or Carafour.

(Maybe it goes with out saying but the challenge is being able to buy these items used or wholesale to maximise gains)
