I would have thoughts Hotels would be checking police credentials carefully before co operating with any scams. For Newbies to Thailand:
First rule for scam avoidance (or minimisation) in Thailand is do not shop in touristy shops, jewellery, tailors, (good shops do exist but find out where first) and do not give even the time of day to any unknown Thai person that tries to talk to you for no apparent reason or to make you an offer. Helpful advice often has shady motives. Any person that comes to you on foot to offer advice and explain how things work, needs to be ignored in most cases. The are generally seeking to rip you off badly. I ignore them. Thais find it unduly rude if I tell them to fuck off. Avoid Tuk Tuks and unmetered taxis. If someone crashes into you, it is bound to be a thief. Don't carry valuables around with you too much. Motorcycle riders may want your bag. Not sure how to avoid being scammed by the real police, that is a tough one.

I gave a bullshit hotel because I had not made my mind up on the girl. Next thing I know, I get a what's app message saying she is in my lobby. I told her that I was not home yet. Next was a photo of a Thai man in a police uniform talking to the reception in the hotel. What transpired from then on was many black mail attempts. At the end of the day, she left the hotel lobby with the fake cope empty handed. This thing is not ileagal but its amazing what a newbie can be talked into with the presense of a would be cope.

All first time meetups should be in public places. This is my firm rule for every new hookup I encounter.

All (read: the very few) times someone tried to scam me in Thailand (sale of gold, jewelry, suits, offers of "free" trips in a tuk-tuk, sexy shows in an upstairs bar, . . .) happened outside in a public place.

Scams with Police involvement at Airports have been reported too. Cops have been known to enter someone's house to search for drugs, and then plant the drugs. People having drugs planted in their bag is a well known big problem. So Thailand is very unsafe place for getting set up by real police. You have the well known Koh Tao murders case.

Always useful to be as anonymous as possible in Thailand.

Can't you just block a We Chat contact so you don't receive messages or calls? I don't use We Chat so I don't know.

I used to maintain two phone numbers. One for normal use, and another for the monger phone. This is probably a useful idea to avoid having to change your main phone number too often due to problems. I have a phone that takes two SIM cards as well.
