My first trip to Columbia. Usually go to the Ukraine but want to try something different. I read about the Mansion some time back..somewhere. Should I stay there since this is my first time? Anyone else going around feb 14th. would like to hook up and make some friends.
Any advice?

Colombia is not the most "European mixed" of all the SA countries. If you go to Argentina and Southern Brasil you will see the huge difference.
The conquistadores always tried to slaved the Indians in SA to save money not buying slaves from Africa. South Brasil wasn't that populated and the Patagones being so reluctant where almost exterminated in Argentina and Uruguay,. That's why the bigger population of European and Middle East blood there, just like in USA the MFs killed almost every Indian moving in "their" land.
Same story happened to the Aztecs in Mexico and all the nations in the north of that country, they where almost extincted, but Mexico was always super populated with many other Indian nations witch are more concentrated from center to the south border, Still have a lot more mixing in Mexico than Peru, all the Northern states of Mexico are some kind of Light skinned, from Jalisco to La Baja, and all the border states, down from Mexico City to La Riviera Maya are darker.
If your cup of tea are the very dark Indians I think Peru, Bolivia, all Centro America and north of Brasil will do it, I have no idea how is the escort action there, Only Rio, but I heard Northern Brasil is a lot of fun for mongering from Rio and up. You will want to be carted around if you don't speak spanish. If you stay at the mansion you might meet other mongers who know spanish or their way around town.
- If you decide to go your own way I recommend hiring one of the many drivers recommended on this forum. If you are not on a budget this is the way to go.
- If you are on a budget and don't speak spanish get some flash cards with the phrases you want to say and take an ISG map with you.

This was the first casa I ever went to in Medellin and I always come back to it.
Prices are very cheap at 25k for a half hour 35k for 45 minutes. The rooms do not have beds only a mattress on the floor.

The chinese restaurant by parque bolivar is called something like chang mai I think. The place is extremely dark but they do have a fish tank. The food is sub par compared to mister lee in the food court about citi bank. Also the price is twice as much......go to the food court.

On my next trip, I was planning on a road trip to Santa Marta or Cartegena. Unfortunately, I'll only be in Medellin for a week and won't have the time. I was thinking of taking a short trip to Santa Fe or Guatape. What do you guys think? Santa Fe seems to be more colonial and great for sight seeing. I also found this great resort there. Like inns. Anyone comments from anyone that have been to either one?

I've been to Guatape and Santa Fe de Antioquia a couple of times. They're both about a 1 1/2 hr. Bus ride from the Caribe bus station. And they both are approximately $10. 000 COP one way.
With Guatape you can stop off at El Penol, which is a little before the town, and hike up the granite rock, all 600+ steps. You get a great view of the surrounding area. Lots of lakes and islands. After you come down you can take a bus or cab into Guatape. The lake is very picturesque, and there's restaurants lining the street. Just to the back side of the street is the town. There's a nice plaza and big cathedral there. Plus lots of shops to buy the usual tourist stuff. Its a pretty laidback place.
Santa Fe de Antioquia is a quaint village with Spanish colonial architecture. Its in a valley surrounded by the Andes and is always hot. A big plaza with an old cathedral plus lots of tourist type shops and a number of restaurants. Again a pretty laid back place during the week. The weekends it gets crowded. I've gone swimming a couple of times there, once in a hostel and one time in a bar (Buffalo Bills).
There's a famous bridge a few miles out of town (Occidente) thats a picturesque spot to go to. They have rickshaws to take you there.
Personally, I like both places. Both a nice day trip from Medellin.

I've been to both Santa fe and Guatape the big rock, and they are both good one day trips, although I found Santa fe a little boring. The drive is interesting and if you're into photography, you can get some great photos of the old town, but other than that, there's not much to do.
I liked Guatape/el penol better. I climbed to the top of the rock and the view is incredible. Good place for photos here too.
I've been thinking of doing a trip to a place called Rio Claro. It's about 3 hours from Medellin and is a very nice river with hotels that overlook the banks. Also caves and rafting. One of these days.
Reservations: I emailed the link on the Medellin Mansion website and was given instructions to reserve my first night on credit card. I’m always leary of emailing my credit card numbers, so I was given a U.S. phone number to call and book the reservation. I called and spoke to Marcy. Marcy spent many years in south Florida and speaks perfect English. She asked if I’d like a ride from the airport and I said yes. I’m glad I chose this option, as it’s a hell of a long way from the airport to the city.
Airport: I walked through immigration and saw a fellow named Hector holding a sign with my name on it. I never get tired of that… The drive into Medellin was quite a ways. I thought Hector was taking me somewhere to get whacked until I saw the lights of Medellin as we came over the mountain.

El Castillo: When I made my reservation, the Mansion was booked up, but there were rooms at El Castillo two blocks away. The Castillo is better suited to my tastes than the Mansion. It’s a little bigger, a little more laid back, and I think it’s a little cheaper. Don’t get me wrong, the Mansion is a blast. It’s just that I’d rather live close to the party, not in it…
I arrived and met my friend and settled into my room. I moved rooms the second day to be closer to my friend, and because I liked the bigger room better. I met Boyd and Robert within a few minutes of arrival and both were very courteous and hospitable. Boyd showed me how to use the safe in my room and Robert called the other driver they use, Fernando for us when we were ready to hit the town.
Fernando arrived and asked where we’d like to go, being new to Medellin, I was open to suggestions. He explained the differences between the clubs, casas, street scene, etc…
Mayorista:
My friend told me that I would never believe my eyes when we went to Calle Mayorista. He was right.
Mayorista is not unlike the Malecon, Walking Street, the Del Rey etc. It’s a few small blocks packed with a ton of chicas. Depending on your taste, you will probably have to dig through some rocks to find your nugget. But what sets Mayorista apart from the rest of venues of it’s kind is the sheer economics of it. For 25K Pesos ($13), You can get a really hot Paisa to play with. Or you can get a really ugly one for the same price. Depending on your personal preference I suppose…
I saw Daniela walking with a friend and she had that awesome Paisa booty that I just love. I asked if she was available and she assured me she was.
