Biontech, Moderna, AZ, J&J are all effective against UK variant.
Biontech, Moderna and J&J are effective against SA variant. AZ is less effective against SA variant, but still protects against severe illness.
The CEO of Biontech said that they can develop a vaccine for a new variant in six weeks. Then you need the time for trials and approvals, but it won't take many years. If a new mutant spreads globally you might need a booster shot next year.
Plus, keep in mind that neutralizing antibodies is just one component of the immune response, there are also T cells, memory be cells.
With regards HIV, there was much less money invested compared to Covid, maybe because for a long time it was believed that HIV affects only junkies and gays and it was the 80's. Number of deaths in US peaked around 40 000 early 90's and went in a few years under 10 000 per year. Much smaller problem.
All this looks very promising and signs more or less the end of the covid 10 pandemic and crisis. I don t understand why the WHO and Anthony Fauci were so negative just few days back.

You can go straight to the end of the paper.
More supporting evidence from the USA:
Latinos die at at 2.3 x death rate of white Americans. Black Americans 1.9 x.
Who has lower average VitaminD levels? Black people.
Who are more socioeconomically disconnected? Latinos.
COVID death rates: Latinos = worse than black Americans ( 20% worse):
I agree with everything you say here. But here's the rub: the USA is going to open up, balls to the walls, with the Pfizer Moderna J&J trifecta. Mutant strains be damned. Like you said, the T cells will save the day, not the antibodies. People are going to get the J&J and they are going to get sick with CoronaVirus anyway. And then it's going to be over here. Remember, so far it least, J&J protects you from dying. That's all the lockdown-weary Americans are asking for at this point. Shooting out of my ass a bit here but we'll soon find out one way or the other.
Lockdowns are a very blunt instrument, the only thing they do is buy some time. A lot makes no sense. I can understand that you don't want an Irish pub to be bursting at the seams on an early Saturday afternoon when there are two 6 Nations games that day. But I don't understand why the flower shop down the street where I have never, ever seen more than one customer inside had to be closed too. People couldn't play tennis even outdoors until 1 March here, but ski was fine even if people have to cram in gondolas to get up the mountain. There are so many Tüpflischiissers in the bureaucracy here and they can't come up with something better after almost one year.
About the US, at least Switzerland keeps US on the list of high risk countries, that means they need to quarantine when they arrive. I think the EU regulations are similar. Traveling from countries / regions with high incidents of mutants is verboten. If a US variant becomes dominant it would apply to them too.
There are 55 000 Hausärzte in Germany. Early Easter the Hausärzte start with vaccinations too, not just the Impfzentren. As long as enough vaccine is delivered from the producers they can vaccinate most people by September.
Now stop squirming and I'll jab that needle in your arm.
To be fair, you said "most EU countries". Yes, I know Switzerland is not EU, but I only looked at Switzerland and Germany. I think in DE and CH they say that they will offer vaccines to everybody who wants it by June / July, they will get all needed shots in arms to everybody who wants it by September / October. Might be important for the supply of WGs, Romania is ahead of Germany with vaccinations. I still think that currently the main issue is not enough vaccines, that should improve significantly in Q2.
Check much better, not only Europeans or UK in Saint Moritz and Davos, and I doubt others stayed in quarantine, from how they seemed to enjoy free life there. I was just on transit to brothels, never met any Swiss out of brothels, on 2020, and no visit on this year, when I would have felt really very guilty if amazing Wengen Lauberhorn was cancelled because of me, when cluster there after Christmas, more than 1 month after my last time entering Switzerland.
I checked much better, the same rules applied with people arriving from whatever were the countries on the high risk list at the time. The issue with the brits was that they were put on high risk list after they already arrived in Switzerland. If people decided not to respect the rules, it's on them.
And I know that you know that the transit regulation is meant to allow people to drive let's say from France to Austria. You decided to claim that going to brothels somehow is transit. Even when Paris region was on the high risk list, you decided to ignore because there were no checks at the borders. You didn't meet Swiss people out of brothels, but you met Swiss people in brothels, how can that not count? You moan about brits going skiing like that is higher risk than you going to brothels. Just say that you don't care as long as you can get away with it and spare me the fake "I would have felt really very guilty" , spare me your self-righteousness and virtue signalling.
the vaccinating campaigns in most of the EU states are a big mess and are hopelessly behind schedule.
That's a good thing for you! You can't both be against vaccination and complain about slow vaccination.

I heard about the 6 week development comment by the Biontech Ceo. But that is only the development. Who says cdc in USA or EU will automatically approve each new version? And what if the virus changes so much that it leads to new effects on the body?
In any case, I'll just keep boosting my vitD levels.

I would guess Fauci wants that reopening doesn't happen too fast, first get people shots in arms, then lift restriction. I can understand that there is big pressure from a social and economic point of view to lift the restrictions, it's a tricky balance.
WHO probably thinks at global level. While EU, US might have enough, there are plenty of poorer countries that have to wait their turn. At global level this will not be finished this year.
Wengen events happened around January 10th. No uptick in Western European cases (except France's steady incline since December) until mid to late February. Switzerland: the number cases for 100 k inhabitants is globally decreasing in every canton since Christmas. Now the most affected Canton is Vaud (130-150 cases for 100 k habitants). Berne is under 100 new cases.
https://covidtracker.fr/covidexplorer/
France: it has been globally slowly increasing since the beginning of December.
Now the three most affected regions are:
Ile de France: 330.
Hauts de France: 350.
Provence Alpes Cote the'Azur: 360.
Mid January: Berne 240 / Ile de France 200.
What a terrible situation in Switzerland!

You were told that data contradicts your opinions. And you post more opinions.
Wengen was a cluster and not me but Bern kanton decided to cancel most important event, Lauberhorn, is it not true? With Worldcup moving to Kitzbühel earlier, must be a real reason Swiss administration decided to lose money, not so usual for them. What made this cluster? Not me for sure, when I always gave my real name and phone on my visits at Globe, Amesia, Freubad where they checked, Zeus, I m not a Donald, and was never contacted about a cluster there. I think less controls in very rich Saint Moritz and Davos, I doubt they control rich foreign tourists in 5 stars, when was reported on international news, compare to borders. When Germans don t seem to like much Swiss, even I think Swiss administration are robbery, but I love Wallis and people there, some speaking German like in Saas Grund, Saas Fe and Zermatt. Why a so strict lockdown since a while in Switzerland if everything is so fine? Why Germany and France forbid us to go? Must be reasons, maybe not on data, but real facts.
Wengen events happened around January 10th. No uptick in Western European cases (except France's steady incline since December) until mid to late February. Math doesn't add up.
Eastern Europe began to see uptick in cases in late January. Math still does not add up. But if we are extremely generous with incubation periods, the British variant would have been brought to Switzerland at the beginning of January, brought to Eastern Europe with an unusually long incubation period, then spread back to Western Europe. What are the chances that richer residents of France, Germany, Italy, Netherland going skiing in expensive Switzerland and not bringing back the virus variant but the poorer residents of Eastern Europe going to rich ski resorts in Switzerland and bringing it back to Eastern Europe, only to spread it back to Western Europe.
Quite statistically unlikely and would be case against Occam's Razor. But think as you wish.
I don't know for Eastern Europe but I know more than 50% new cases in France are mutants, mainly the one born in UK on end of last year, spreading faster and killing more, reason why UK are forbidden in Germany and Spain, not for pleasure. UK are not forbidden in France, they even made a cluster in Vallorcine on Swiss border. Belgium closed borders, Germany closed with Czech and wanted with Austrian Tirol, ski paradise, also under UK mutant. Western EU is afraid and try to protect versus mutants and mainly UK. I'm pretty sure as long mutants in EU, no way for brothels, when no Western continental European mutant exist.
