I'm staying at My Place in Mayorista.

Why did I choose Medellin?

To me Medellin has become my new sosua. Sosua used to be a cheap place to go to get loaded and have sex. I don't feel this way after going to Medellin 3 times now. Between here and Lima these are my cheapest trips. I will continue to come here at least once a year maybe two as long as the price is right. At least here I can go to a movie take the metro etc. When you are in sosua you are pretty much stranded. Not to mention negotiating with chicas is way easier here.

Before I go on let me say one thing:

El Centro is Medellin. Medellin is El Centro. IMHO there is nothing else besides the high end escort scene.

Hotels:

I owe many thanks to ISG member bayboy who turned me on to the hotel plazuela de nutibara (owned by hotel nutibara across the street).

I booked two nights at the hotel nutibara(reservasathotelnutibara. Com) until I got settled. Rates were around $55 with tax and a free breakfast buffet. No smoking in any of the rooms. Goodbye hotel california!

Went across the street to the plazuela nutibara for a week. I paid 55k with credit card for a very decent room with a beautiful view of plaza botero and the metro. I had the free buffet at the nutibara and use of all ammentities like the pool and sauna. I didn't take advantage of anything but the breakfast a few times. I was too busy.

After a week I left the plazuela because:

1. The noise in the general area finally got to me. A bar on one side then at 7am the buses on the other side. If you are an early riser (8am) it shouldn't matter.

2. They have an elevator lady who really doesn't need to be there and you have to make small talk everytime you use the elevator. I got tired of it especially when I had a buzz going.

3. Cops hang out in the hotel lobby. It was just too uncomfortable for me to deal with that everyday. I felt like I needed more privacy.

. Both a great hotels though and offer first class service for almost nothing.

I saw many normal people staying in these hotels. One could easily be safe staying in the centro at one of these hotels. If you are back in your room by 10: 30pm you should have no problems. It depends on you.

I went back to my old freinds at [url]www.Hotelplazabotero.com[/url] and they offered me an even better deal on a very high floor for 50k cash. I paid for the rest of my trip and I've been there ever since. They treat me like a king there.

All in all I made out like a bandit with my hotel stay. It was so cheap it made anything else irrelevant.

* I would like to recommend another hotel than a former ISG member briefly talked about. I wish I remember who it was to give him credit.

Right across the street from hotel plaza botero and the airport shuttle is a hotel called "hotel deseos". Rooms run from 25 to 40k. You would never think of going in there just by looking at the lobby but take a look at the rooms. For 20k you can get a really nice clean room facing a courtyard (all face courtyard in front). The two rooms I was shown had windows facing the back of buildings. You might hear generator noises. I use a white noise mp3 anyway so it would have worked. I would choose generators over traffic anyday.

I did not stay here only because they didn't have anyplace to lock up luggage. The table extended from the wall and the bed didn't have any legs to it. I need someplace to chain stuff up.

They have a snack store in the lobby no safe only cash. No email just walk in and ask for a room when you get here. You will be right by the metro and the hotel nutibara for only $12.

Casas:

I chose a different casa everyday until recently to make it interesting for myself and for the forum. Here it goes:

Mayorista:

Same shit. More girls try to hustle you there than anyplace else (even centro). It takes me forever to choose and interview chicas due to all the bullshit. Some idiots ask their prospective johns for 50 cents before soliciting. Idiots! Bring your tijuana negotiating skills or be very patient and study your prey before you make a move.

I could swear some of the really young pretty girls are only there to prance around for self esteem purposes. There is one group of hotties that all they do is walk back and forth and won't talk to any guys that approach them.

Mayorista is just a place to go besides the centro. Sometimes you feel like getting a girl sometimes you don't.

Try to stay away from the hotels in the middle of the block. They are clock watchers and early risers.

Malls:

Mayorca-You will want to see a movie probably if you stay here long enough. My favorite mall was plaza mayorca located at the very last stop at the itagui metro station. The metro exit leads right into the mall. No cab or bus needed to get there.

*Great food court with pasta!

Oviedo- Overpriced tripping on food court prices. Looked like half tacky strip mall then ok inside mall. Have fun getting ripped off at the food court. If you can find an empty table!

Unicentro- This mall is for you laurales guys. Its a rather boring mall but has movie theaters and is close to la 70. Not much AC in the theater.

Sud america- Also another option for you laurales guys. It has a movie theater a walmart type store and a limited food court. Have fun keeping busy for an hour before the movie starts. Not much to C.

IMHO the best way to see a movie is go to the mall at either 1pm or 5pm and buy tickets for shows that start in an hour or so and go eat. I don't trust the time tables online. Just my thing.

Zona Libres (parks of debauchery and more)

Parque Periodista- stoner park metal heaven whatever you want to call it located in the centro. Remember the smoking section at school? Re live your past and look into your future. At least until the joint ends.

I was told police stop patroling after 9pm then everybody lights up. Last year they did this in front of cops this year they do it when the cops arent looking. Strength in numbers? Maybe but don't let anyone see you do it. Maybe ask to share so you arent holding the baton all the time. I was there many nights but only took a few hits passed to me. I was too paranoid to smoke in public although I could have easily.

Parque Central in barrio Carlos E. Restoepo- This barrio is located next to the metro station " universidad". Ask for the barrio then for the parque central. A stoner told me this place is cool when it gets dark and things are way more relaxed than at parque periodista. I never made it there. Please tell me how it goes.

Libido- A bartender I became friendly with in parque periodista told me about this place called "Libido". It is located again at the " universida" metro station

On the corner of Cra 50 bolivar and calle 79 miranda. The owner is called mario. The house is rather hidden in trees so ask around for libido when you get to that general area.

I was told this guy mario opens his house/space to people on a fri or sat night for around 5k maybe 10k. It is apparently an after hours open house anything goes place with people doing whatever they please. Some fucking in bedrooms. I never made it there because it was too late for me but I'd love to hear from someone that has been.

Searches/Community watch groups:

Police can stop you anytime they want and search you. I watched search after search from my bedroom window at the plazuela nutibara. The only place they consistently *DID NOT SEARCH is inside the persons shoe.

You will also see a bunch of people in white polo shirts with green trimming and green hats. These are neighborhood watch people with walkie talkies. There is a desire to clean things up a bit and they do their thing and call the cops if they need to. One day I saw them stop a guy peddling through plaza botero on his bike. A few of them gathered around him and held his bike. The guy told them to fuck off and walked away after ripping the bike from their hands. A few seconds later the cops were summoned and the guy had to go through a search and other bullshit. They look at me sometimes in the smut area but they haven't stopped me. I was treat them as you would treat a cop. Try to avoid them in the same way. Be careful if you go hunting around them. I don't know what they can do but they are obnoxious regardless.

Did you go anywhere else besides Medellin. Why/Why not?

No. I was going to the coffee region but I was talked out of it by a friend here. I would have gotten bored after a day. Not worth the effort for me.

I would have liked to have gone to areas close to Medellin but bus rides with no bathrooms is a no no for me. Been there done that. Why not other cities in Colombia?

Menteng said it right when I had lunch with him. If you want beach you go to south east asia or the caribbean not Colombia. Prices on the coast are too high for me. I could do just as well or better in the DR or jamaica.

Cali I heard is even slower than Medellin. I would last 2/3 days tops.

Bogota is at a high elevation and I've heard bargin mongering is so so.

Thats leaves me with Medellin.

Strip Clubs:

There are many strip clubs in the centro. Most all offer 50k for 30 min service in back room. My favorites are conejitas and las america because they have good music and they keep girls on stage. The girls will vary from club to club. Some real diamonds though:

Rants:

Medellin is great deal if you do it right. By doing it right I mean take advantage of the centro. If you have zona norte skills in tijuana you can do the centro here. Its sketchy but the pay off is big.

When you wander away from the centro you WILL get jacked for everything then your trip is no longer a good deal.

If you have money and do the high end escort deal in poblado. Private apartment etc. Fine you are doing the right thing but otherwise I go centro or I don't go to Medellin.

Laureles is a total rip off IMHO even locals will say that. You WILL get tired of *changing metro lines to get to the centro. It is very similar to switching trains in the times square station or union square. Too many people always crowded and steps to climb up. One day I took a cab to escape the misery and it wound up taking me almost 40 minutes to get to the centro. It takes 5 minutes without traffic. Have fun on la 70.

I've learned that colombians like to get fucked up fuck pussy and do alot of drugs. I have no problem with this but man is it obvious. IMHO a colombian can drink more than mexicans anyday and that says alot.

I also grew very fond of colombians. They are very kind people and I enjoyed dealing with them in everyway. They are so polite compared to the animals in america. I feel accepted here and I appreciate it very much. I tried to return the kindness.

Well, the point was to compare Medellin girls with Paraguayans and the SWs from Tijuana.
