M. A. B. May I add a new scam to the list! Driving in Pudong last month, waiting at a traffic light, I was approached by two young men wearing military fatigues (including hats, but no insignia) who pointed to a camouflage painted jeep across the road, where two more soldiers where holding up a pair of military style infra red binoculars, offering them for sale! I've since seen the team several times around Pudong. The jeep looked brand new, but again, no insignia. Possibly a student rag week stunt? In China?

For the fishbowl experience, which is better? Hai Lang? Sacrosa? 999? Golden 18? Bodi? All of your descriptions sound good. But which is most highly rated? Credit card accepted prefered with better facilities.

For longtime experience, do I have to go to Big Bamboo or Malones? Can I go to the saunas and take the girls back to my room? Do girls at the pink light areas do the same? BTW, where are the pink light areas? I know, RTFF, but I've been searching, can't get a clue.

Should I book a hotel in advance? Or should I just imrpovise as I get there? Which hotel is closest to these spots, recommended, and transportation is convenient?

Hotel: Donghu Hotel on Donghu Lu, just off Huaihai Lu. Walking distnace to restaurants, subway, and every cabbie knows where it is. Not a very luxurious place.

Saunas: Been to 999 and Sacrosa. 999 will accept credit cards is about 30rmb cab ride from the hotel. Sacrosa is accessible via subway. Most saunas are about the same. Same service model, about the same price. Just need to get lucky with your choice.

Bars: Never been to Malones or Manhattans. But I imagine they are just like Orchard Towers in Singapore.

Where in Taiwan are you?

Long term is Manhattan if you like pho or adobo.

999 is fish bowl, sacrosa is lineup like CP. I like both places but sacrosa has happy hour special, finish before 7 and it's less than 600 rmb.

There are a lot of bbs too, sometimes a fun way to play.

Shanghai is a great place. The bars and clubs are great places to hook up.

Except in Manhattan you realy really only have Viets and Flips. Occasionally a Thai or 2 and a few Cambos.

IMHO Manhattan not a patch on Ipanema. Malones is just a shithole IMHO. Old hagged ho's. Ok for a drink. Band good there. But never seen a decent WG in there EVER.

Fz[/QUOTE]The military vehicles have white license plates. Govt officials or 'connected' people have black plates and everyone else has blue plates. Police cars are clearly marked. You can buy infrared and NVGs at the pearl markets and fake goods markets too.

That being said, you shouldn't let anyone try and get you to go with them unless you are absolutely certain its police and they show you valid I'd which rarely happens anyways.

Given all the scams going on, its not too difficult to imagine a new one where you get shaken down by people posing as military or govt officials.

In fact, it is almost impossible that anyone from military would stop a foreigner because its not their protocol.

[/QUOTE]I must confess, I didn't take these guys seriously, I assumed they were simply trying to sell cheap fake rubbish at a fancy price, (ever been offerred a "Cannon" camera outfit or "Nokio" phone!). The vehicle was definitely not an official vehicle, and they were also trying to talk to Chinese drivers. That said, there were four guys spending thier time on this, and using a seemingly brand new vehicle.

We are cautious of scams on foreigners, but we are not alone! In my experience Chinese people are very gullible, take a bus tour to anywhere to see the sales patter, be it tea, jade, or silk!
