Crafty travel agents and hotels can get you an "afternoon tea" for only 400Dhs per person at the Burj. It would appear some folks just want to bask in the reflected glory of the mega-rich.
Me, I live off their crumbs.
Cheers,
The "sail" hotel is Burj Al Arab ("The Arab Tower") - a so-called 7-star hotel that hosts the likes of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and other sexual deviants. ;) Around US$2000 per night from menory.
The Burj used to have summer sales: only $700 usd / night.
WG I used to pull from Cyclone had been there. She was not that impressed, although she said the room was 2 stories.
All the rooms are two stories. All the latest technology, remote control curtains ad nauseum.
There is a difference between flash and class.

True - it's kitch. I've had opportunities to go for free, but always declined. Does this mean I have class? ;)
I've had opportunities to go for free...
Damn, you are a cheap date.
A beer, a babe and a billiard table (not necessarily in that order), and Piper is a happy man!
Any updates on Novotel? How girl-friendly is it?
Any idea about this place? Nice, not nice? GF or not GF?
Any feedback on Novotel by Exhibition grounds? Girl-friendly?
Danxxx,
If it's anything like the Ibis at the other end of the Exhibition grounds it's friendly.
I stayed at the Ibis in July. The concierge stated that the girl had to have a driving licence or original passport. When I brought her in, I avoided the lobby on the left and headed straight for the lifts on the right. No security, no concierge, no problems. Since they are both affiliated, I may presume that the same principle may apply. Since GITEX is just around the corner, the rules may change. . .
Good luck. Hotel places during GITEX have escalated disproportionally and rooms are totally booked up. Ibis was a cheap hotel option, clean but very small rooms with few amenities (no minibar). It's location for the Exhibition centre is its main selling point. IMHO.
Good hunting

Novotel is not that bad. I stayed there early this year and got a girl in with no problem at 2 in morning. Headed straght for lift and up to room with no problems. However 3 nights later tried to get same girl in alongwith another girl at 2 in morning and security appeared. They must have been watching a CCTV as no-one was in the lobby at the time. He asked girls for identification. They refused as they had overstayed there visas. C'est la vie
Hotel places during GITEX have escalated disproportionally and rooms are totally booked up.
With more traffic, less taxis around town. For sure, the a-listers will be getting their "sticker" price. This is the time to use your "regulars" service.

Try using hotel appartmets if you need to get the price down, London Crown, Winchester Grand/ old Winchester or even the Chelsea (new in the Mankhool area). They are also more guest friendly....
Do you have contact info of these places? I am not familiar with Dubai, Mankhool is a good area? I want to stay close to action, will this area work?

That is an outrageous price. I think its due to your dates falling a few days after the Eid holiday. Hordes of Gulf tourists will be in Dubai at the time and rooms will be in short supply.
