This was a great hotel to be in. The location is in a less busier part of centro. Across the street is a decent sized mall with a food court, Burger King, Pizza Hut, ATM, supermarket, movie cinemas, and money exchange booth. There is also a news-stand inside the mall which is where I would pick up my morning copy of the Diario Popular and perv at the classified ads. The money exchange place at the mall gives a worser rate than the ones on Palma, 7 blocks away. A taxi stand is across the street from the hotel. A hot breakfast was included and they have a basic fitness center and 3 computers with internet access in the lobby. At lunch time, the food court is a great place, if you speak Spanish, to meet women because many office workers and professional types come to the food court to eat lunch. Many of those office girls were drop dead gorgeous and made for great eye candy.

This is a good time to comment on my observations and opinions of Asuncion. I have to agree with other mongers who have been here before me, there isn't much to do here. Unless you have a steady girlfriend to be with here or are here on business, I wouldn't spend more than a week here.

With the exception of the privados, the prices of all other products in Asuncion are not as cheap as I thought it would be. This is also due to the decline of the US Dollar.

About 99% of the people I encountered in Asuncion did not speak English and the 1% of those that did worked in the Excelsior. Those that speak Spanish may find the Paraguayan Spanish difficult to understand, particularly when that Paraguayan speaks with a Guarani accent.

I had a good time here and I'd definitely come back to Asuncion again just to follow up on the great privado experiences I had here. I can't think of many places in the world where $15 to $17 can get you an attractive 20 year old with a superb body.

I'm planning a trip to Asuncion at the end of the year and am giddy at how inexpensive things are compared to what I'm used to in Europe ($400/night easy -- I could book all of the girls in Deseos for the night for less than that!).

My only big worry is that I don't speak a lick of Spanish. I'm going to try and do a crash course with one of these at home learning courses over the next few months, but I'm not optimistic.

The Excelsior looks like a nice hotel, but it's bigger brother the Granados Park seems even nicer.

I did not encounter one person who spoke English outside of the tourism industry. I've tried those CD courses you buy at a store and I never got very far. I would recommend taking an evening Spanish class at a local community college in your area. It will improve your speaking ability by leaps and bounds instead of talking to a computer screen if you just did the CD thing. Taking Spanish 101 pays big dividends when coming here.

If you really want to impress and dazzle a non-pro for a second or two, learn a few words of Guarani. Guarani is a tribal language and Paraguay's second official language. Paraguayans are proud of their Guarani language. Whenever I spoke Spanish to people they would ask if I spoke Guarani. The only Guarani phrase I learned was "I love you" but I don't think I will be using that phrase anytime soon, especially while mongering!

The downtown area at night is fairly dead. There is one bar called the Chopperia del Puerto, about 6 blocks away from the Granados Park Hotel that seemed to have a little life.

I would agree with you, the Granados Park Hotel is a very nice establishment and located in a very lively part of centro. You are across the street from a variety of restaurants, stores, street vendors and money exchange places. If you are on a tight budget, the Las Margaritas is across the street from the Granados. While Granados is a 5 star, I believe Las Margaritas is a 3 star. They both looked very nice when I walked past them.

Most of Asuncion's people like to go to the clubs and bars outside of the centro area. Face's pub is a popular one. There are some bars in this newer complex called the Carmelitas on Avenida Espana, about a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride without traffic. There's a popular Irish pub there. They even had a Hooters there across the street. I never went to Brittania Pub so I really can't comment on it.

I thought the city was safe overall. I took the usual tourist precautions like I do anywhere in the world: carrying small amounts of money at one time, keep wallet in front pocket, etc. But I never at one time felt my spider senses tingle and felt unsafe.

Just a reminder for any Americans planning a trip to Paraguay, you need to get a tourist visa from the Paraguayan Embassy or Consulate. They do not issue visas at the airport like Chile does.

There used to be a day, a few years back, when the exchange rate was 7000 Guaranis per US dollar. Now it is around 4000 Guaranis per US dollar and falling. I can't imagine what it would have been like when it was 7000 per US dollar. A sexy, latina 20 year old for under $10. WOW!

I know I owe this forum a report. Unfortunately, thanks to Vista, my computer crashed for its 3rd time (memory?) and I had to format the hard disc so all my info and notes were lost. A few notes out of memory then.

Arrived from Rio whilst my wingman from Montevideo via Buenos. We met at the airport of ASUncion. It is a very small regional airport. There was a public bus service to town crowded and not very comfortable for our luggage. We got an old taxi; they are all old, for about 90k. Had booking with City hotel. Checked in and walked 2-3 blocks nearby to a shopping mall for some food and few groceries.

We didn’t like the rooms at all so we only stayed one night. There was a copa libertadores soccer match the previous evening and most hotels were fully booked. Got a taxista for 30k in the evening who drove us around for an hour looking for another hotel. We finally found the best deal at hotel PHOENIX on a parallel street to Colon near the river.

Large clean rooms with a FANTASTIC view of the river and Chaco forest.
Booked rooms 1105 and 1005 for 100k with decent breakfast. Very low occupancy not many guests. If I remember correctly they said 30k joiner’s fee. Be aware check out at 10:00 am. Negotiated 25k until 15:00 on the day of our departure.

Out of the five days we stayed four of them we were visiting at around 13:00 the Babylonia (also known as "Elite Productions"), Azara 1270, at Curupayty.

Next stop was Foz do Iguasu falls. We flew to Ciudad del Este and from there we hired a taxi to the Brazilian side and back after three days there because our next stop was RIO flying out of Ciudad del Este. Much more expensive to fly from Iguasu
No passport control or anything to Brazil and back.
Once there I strongly suggest visiting the falls. Breathtaking views of the falls both from the Brazilian and Argentinean side. Getting into/out of Argentina they are stamping passports for a ninety day visa. We only stayed for about 8 hrs.

TAM Mercosur Ticket GIG-ASU-AGT-GIG R 784,66 purchased at TAM's office in Fortaleza. About R40 less if purchased on line.

Flight both ways goes via SAO (GRU). About 1:30 hrs ground time and you have to disembark and go through security check again.
GIG-SAO 1 hr, SAO-ASU 1:30, ASU-AGT 45 min, AGT-SAO 1 hr, SAO-GIG 1 hr.

If you go GIG-IGUasu you will have to use either TAM or GOL and it will cost you more. Think of going over to AGT/ Ciudad del Este by taxi from IGU and flying to ASU domestic otherwise, I think, you might have to go back to SAO from IGU in order to fly to ASU.

I got a lot of useful info on ASU from this board. Thank you. But I just have a couple of questions I can't find the answer to:

1) What is the best time of day to visit casas? I understand they are mainly day time places so I would guess afternoon/early evening? Do they work mainly weekdays or also weekends?

2) Is there any club action on weekends? Is Playboy Club open and worth visiting? Anything similar?

THERE IS NO CLUB SCENE IN ASUNCION, period. There are a few houses that have a bar in them, and maybe a half-ass stage and bar, but there are never any people in them, maybe three or four ugly women, and thats about it; these places are shit. There are however, a couple hundred private apartments, many of which are open at night (the girls live in the apartments). The best girls work during the day, so the best time to go is between 11am and 6pm. On weekends the pickings are very slim, so make contacts during the week. Asuncion probably has the highest quality of girls working in private casas/apartments of all the cities, better than Buenos Aires, Medellin, or Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Unfortunately for your truly, I like the nighttime club scene much better than the daytime apartment scene so Asuncion is not my favorite place for mongering, I have good non-pro hookups there so when I visit Asuncion I hit that up.

If you are a reasonably young decent looking spanish speaking foreigner in Asuncion its really easy to get with the non-pros; without spanish this is much more difficult as there really is almost no English spoken here. Anyway, the nightclubs are absolutely filled to the brim with hot young regular girls, the clubs always have a favorable female/male ratio, generally 3:2 female/male, mostly young cuties with no money whatsoever looking for a guy to take care of them, as this is about as much as a women can aspire for in zero opportunity Paraguay.

That's the point of vue of Hooligan, but I also heard that or read that on the web. Is Asuncion really a boring place? Is it really impossible to stay there a long time, I mean a few weeks or a few months?
Is Asuncion really worst than Lima for ex.?
I stayed a few months in Lima and I had a good time and wasn't so much bored.
What would be the difference is if you can understand and speaking Spanish, so the stay would be much more enjoyable....

I want to thank everyone for all the info provided, this was my first time in Asuncion, and I have to say, all of you were right. The city is dirt cheap and packed with beautiful women!

I stayed at the Manduara Hotel, I emailed them asking for any promotions/rates and after a couple of emails they quoted me a rate of $34 USD per night (see pic of my room below). They also provide pick up service from the airport for an additional $17 USD.

I met some locals through orkut, I got to Asuncion on a Wed at 2am and I met up with my new friends the next night for a couple of drinks. They took me to a pub called Brittania (three-four blocks walking distance from the hotel - [url]http://www.britannia-pub.com.py[/url]). The place had a good crowd, but most seemed to be in groups, I found it hard to approach any hotties. After many drinks we headed to Coyote ([url]http://www.coyote.com.py/asuncion/[/url]). Entrance fee was 20,000 guaranis and drinks approx 6,000. I've never seen so many beautiful girls! The girls were very approachable and friendly. I was about to close the deal with one 18yo hottie when one of my new friends (girl) came over and completely cocked blocked me!!! I figured it was my first night out, so I let it slide. After Coyote, at around 3 30am, they took me to Faces ([url]http://www.faces.com.py/[/url]), place was packed and again, many hotties all over the place!!! We stayed at hotel Dani (I had a single and the rate was 60 reals) The falls were amazing! Our cabbie was a very cool guy, later that night I asked him to take me to a place with chicas and he took me to Cristals. It was still early (11:30pm) I went in for a drink and wow, I've read some bad reviews about this place, but wow, I saw some girls that for me were perfect 10s! One girl approached me, very pretty and according to her she had one week in the business, she quoted me her price as 250 reals plus the fee for the house. Man I was so ready to take her then, but that would have cut my night short. I told her that I would return at 1:30 am. The cabbie took me back to the hotel to meet with my friends, we were supposed to hit a club but there was some kind of holiday and it was closed. They called it a night and the cabbie took me to a local bar. I meet a couple of local girls and with all the drinking I lost track of time, I check my watch and it was 2:15! I stormed out of that place and told the cabbie to pls take me to Cristals, we get there and the place was closed!!! Man I was so disappointed! We had 4-5 bottles at our tables (Don't know the exact prices, but one of the girls mentioned that you can get a bottle for 50 bucks). I got back to the hotel and called Jessica from Diosa. (I apologize guys, as a rookie I took a lot of things for granted. At the time they had many pictures of Jessica, I figured I would come back and use the website as a reference to write/complement my reviews. I get back from my trip and to my surprise her pics weren't there anymore!!! I was very disappointed.) I asked her if she could come to my hotel and she quoted me a price of 300,000, I told her I would give her 200,000. (sorry guys, I was too drunk and horny to pay market prices). I was a very happy man when I opened the door, she was a good looking girl and man was she eager to get down to business. I took two-three pics of her and got down to business (no nude pics, once again rookie behavior, when I saw her on my bed the last thing that I wanted to be doing was taking pics!!) She was great, I felt like I had picked her up at the club, very gfe. She got to my room at around 5am and left a couple of hours later, I don't know if this counts as a "stay", but I never got an extra fee from the hotel for her visit.

On Sunday we started our night at Brittania, had a couple of drinks with my friends and then went to La Cubana. This place had a couple of very good looking girls, they were dressed very slutty too. The girls at every other place were very approachable and friendly, I tried talking to a couple of girls at la cubana and I just got the cold shoulder (maybe it was because I was just trying to talk to all the perfect 10's!!) After 2-3 tries I gave up and went to the bar, straight to the point. I started a conversation with the bartender and after a couple of drinks and nice tips I asked him if he knew how things worked. He called and introduced me to three girls that had potential for p4p, one of them was very hot but she was busy with a group of guys. He told me to return Mon or Wed, that those nights are usually better.

The next day I decided to visit a casa, Sigana Mia, the place is half a block from the hotel (I could actually see the door to the place from my room!) They had four girls. Next couple of days I spent my time chilling with some of the girls I met at the clubs and friends. I was able to visit Lethys, I saw an add on the newspaper and Lethys picture looked pretty hot. Karina opened the door and told me that Lethy was busy, but that she was available as well as another girl (Pamela). Karina wasn't really my type so I went with Pamela.
