Nice link, visited and got an idea. Still, I don't get what is a "condo" exactly? A compound with multiple flats and studio apartments?

Let's say I can afford a budget of roughly 1. 000 $ for the 3 weeks stay (meaning cost of holiday excl. Plane ticket).

Now, changing location from Bangkok to Phuket to Pattaya to Koh Samet is it something that may affect my budget in terms of accomodation costs, so that it may be more convenient to make a deal with a single hotel/apartment (if there is any chance to get one) or is it not so relevant?

The last bus from BKK to Patts leaves at 8PM. I'm surprised that the last departure from Jomtien to drop off doesn't do a turn at BKK, tho - it gets in at 9pm or so ... they go SOMEWHERE for the nite because they leave for Jomtien and points in between at 6:45

Nope, there are no buses until the next morning. You've got 3 choices:

1) Get a taxi to Pattaya
2) Hang out at the Airport or an Airport hotel until around 8 AM
3) Go into Bangkok for the night, and catch a freelancer after the bars close.

My flight gets in at 11:45, and I am going to be availing myself of choice #3. Then getting a bus from Ekamai the next day.

A condo is a privately owned unit or apartment in a building that has many of them, ranging from 50 condos to 800 condos. The people that own these condos and don't live in them turn them over to various Real Estate Agencies in the hope they will rent them out and the owner will make a little money.

They can vary in size from 28 Square Meters, which would be a small studio to 400 Square Meters that would be 3 or 4 bedrooms. You can rent a condo for as low as 6,000 Baht plus utilities. Obviously the more your willing to pay, the better your accommodations are going to be.

If you are staying in Pattaya for two weeks or more, you will almost assuredly be better off renting a condo instead of staying in a hotel room. The agencies will usually want you to pay when you move in and take a one months deposit. If there is no damage your deposit will be returned to you less the electric and water you used.

They will check the meters when you check out. This could add anywhere from 500 Baht to 4,000 Baht to you cost largely depending on how much your air conditioning is turned on.

Just review the condos for rent section and find one you like. Then email the agency and find out if it is available for your dates. If you want to talk to them, they all have numbers on there websites. You can download Skype and call them for virtually nothing.

There are a ton of buildings here and it is really important that you get one on the Baht Bus route so you have 24 hours day transportation. I would recommend View Talay 6 in Pattaya. It is right in the middle of everything next to the new mall which is the equivalent of any major mall you will find anywhere in the world.

In Jomtien, which is where I live as do most of the people that live here year round, I would recommend View Talay 1, 2 and 5. It is a ten minute ride to Pattaya, although the road is now being renovated and it could take longer depending on what time of day you travel.

Another way to do this is too rent a hotel room for a few days and have a look around for yourself and see what you find. If you arrive during working hours 9AM to 5PM you will be able to check into your condo that day. However, if you arrive later you will need a hotel room.

Yes travelling about alot will eat more into your budget.

Taxi from airport to Pattaya return 2000bht approx

If your flight times are right then Bell bus is 400bht return.

You should get a better deal if you stay at the same guesthouse/hotel for the 3 weeks. Not all places will. Remember January is still classed as high season.

Also you will need more than a $1000 for 3 weeks I budget a £100 a day.

That is an extremely tight budget for the new high-cost Thailand. That's roughly 1,500-1,600 baht per day. Really, its almost impossible I'm afraid. But the best way for you is to go directly to Pattaya and try to find a fan/cold water room with no TV for 150-250/night, and then eat only very simply, don't drink or go into any bars, and just take only Beach Road freelancers for about 300-600 per session, assuming Beach Road is not being cracked down on too much at the time of your visit (its been ok lately)

Alternatively it wouldn't be bad to go to Udon Thani and stay in a decent cheap hotel for 250-320/night with TV and air, and just go to the small Lao houses for about that same 300-600 per session. However there is no guarantee the houses will be open when you're there, and of course service is poor. I wish I could tell you more about the update on that scene, but I haven't been in a while.

Let's budget both of those out, for fun:

Pattaya - Taxi to Pattaya from the airport 1,200 baht +
each day 250 room, 1,000 for girls, 250 for food - 1,500/day times 20, 30,000 + bus to airport 200 = total 31,400 baht.

Udon - one night in bangkok each way 1,800 X 2, 3,600 baht, + each day 320 room, 1,000 girls, 200 for food, 1,520 day times 18 days, 27,360 + bus to and from Udon 600 each way times two 1,200 = total 32,160 baht.

This gives you two girls per day, and if you cut it back to 1.5 girls per day you'll have money for the myriad unexpected expenses that come up - for example washing your clothes and getting around. I'm afraid that 2,500 baht a day is a lot more realistic.

I think if you are on a budget 2000 baht a day should suffuce to live well.
Two years ago I spent 17 days in Pattaya at an average of 1,350b a day and
last year I averaged 1500 a day staying in South Pattaya. This includes the
occasional ladies I come across but excludes transport to/fro Bangkok.
Of course being over 60 I cut on girls, still I could enjoy myself.By the way I am Chinese.

Maybe I'm missing something here? What does being Chinese have anything to do with your remarks? I'm Chinese too and from what you are saying should I expect the same thing to happen to me when I get 60?

First, thank you all for answering. This is really the best forum for infos and tips to first-timers like me.

My, my, my. I've been told from this friend of mine that staying 3/4 weeks or more makes sense as the only way to balance high costs of plane ticket, since once in Pattaya life there is cheap and now I find out that it is expensive too!

Maybe I should re-plan and stay only two weeks.

By the way, flyng to Bangkok from Milan with Thai Airlines is about 900 euros (roughly 1. 300$) so it is actually half of the budget for the holiday.

(Unless you don't have better tips for that too, it seems to me that flying with Lufthansa, Klm or other companies which stopover at somewhere makes a long journey longer and even more expensive. Thai Airlines still sounds to me as best bet).

Back to budget. Yes, I think I can raise it to 1. 300$ or something, depending if I manage to save something on plane rate, but not much more.

Opebo, as for lifestyle during holiday, if think 1 girl a day will work for me. I have been told that girls stay overnight for an average of 1. 000 baht, so having 2 girls a day would mean either a permanent threesome or an extra session in the afternoon and I don't think I would ever reach that score.

As I told, I would enjoy some rest too, some lazy time in walks, laying on beach or riding a boat to coral island. Or is it a 24hr pussy-focused set like gambling is in Vegas?

Now, I would enjoy a comfortable accomodation, but I don't need no luxury. I would enjoy some fine food and drinks, but I don't mean pushing it at top.

I will think about it and see if I can come up with something.

Bill, thanks for detailled description provided.

I think that probably the best for me is to spend 1/2 days in a hotel and then see there what is available, what I like and what I can afford.

More than everything I am for a quiet place. I like to rock and roll into the night, but when partytime is over I need a good time sleep and I cannot bear noise around.

I don't mind if it takes a short ride to beach or to go-go bars, provided there is a good bus service (I would like to avoid motorbike), I am definitely for a place away from street hassle or construction area, all things that I probably need to check on the spot.

Verdant Villa is cheap and looks ok, Nong Apartments and Jomtien Vacation Rental Apartments are more expensive but even look cosier. Maybe I can afford one of them.

Can you tell me if Nong and Jomtien are still district of Pattaya or names of smalltown around?

Are they located on View Talay 6 you reccomended?

Your figures are correct for Udon Thani, and many brothels are open (I visited soi sow fai deng and two other P4P places in this town very recently).

If what you are saying is you want a 3 week holiday excluding airfare for a total of $1, 000 USD (including girls, food, and accomadations for the $1, 000 USD) that is only $50 a day and tha would be difficult to do even with a very low budget unless you cut out girls or room.

I just reread your posts. For me anything less than $100 a day excluding airfare. Even in Pattaya. Is my bare minimum. Unless you ate only going to take a girl every other day or so.

$ 1300 excluding hotel room is not enough for one month. Oh oh yes is enouth without the girls and drinks for 120 baht at go gos etc.. No girls no alcool no fun. My last stay in Pattaya for fun. Doing nothing special just beach. Some tequillas. Beach chair food. With girl a weekend Friday Saturday Sunday

Euro 200 easy gone.
