Purchasing tickets in Colombia is no problem.

You can buy two roundtrip tickets (as John suggested) but if one way is really your goal, then buy the return ticket as a full-fare refundable ticket, print it and cancel it after you land.

I want to post some comments in the general section. What little specifics I have, I will post in other cities.

I did do my roadtrip from MDE to Manizales, to Pereira, Armenia, Buga and Cali on a Motorcycle, BMW 800 GS. The bikes from Motolombia were fantastic. The roads are awesome, the sceneray is spectacular, people are very friendly and most importantly, I NEVER felt unsafe. I think driving on your own in Mexico and some central american countries is way more riskier than in Colombia.

Mongering wise, it was a total bust (for my tastes). Can't wait to get back to MDE

My order, most days to least, would be the following and I have been to all of them.

MDE, CTG, BOG, Cali and Barranquilla.

BTW, Given the above criteria, I would be surprised if you could find a 10 P4P in Colombia. So, likely you will be saving some money. There are lot of 10s in MDE and BOG but they are high society chicas, generally not in the P4P circles. I saw 3 or 4 all natural 10s in the Tesoro mall in MDE. That is rare for any big city.

I have decided to move to Medellin, and what I am looking for is just info in living in and expats. There are a lot of boards but I am trying to get as much info as I can.

From what I hear a lot of people have said It can be cheap or expensive as you like. I do speak Spanish so that be good but is there any Xpats in Medellin that live here.

blue devil on another forum lives in sabaneta. he would be able to give you some good advice. there is a bi-lingual woman, andrea of guidesbyandrea, who can help you find an apartment to live in. an obvious alternative to poblado and patio bonito is laureles, though i think it has lots of barrios which differ in strata level or what have you. there is an upscale hostel in poblado and the owner would be a good contact i expect.

barry of poblado rentals is down there often, and can orient you. there is a living in medellin thread that has never really gotten going, with some info on cedulas. i think there is an under the radar expat community, it might take some time to find and meet them.

When I did the buses in Mexico I brought a winter coat and scarf. It was very much needed. Same thing in Colombia? From what I've read food is hard to come by during the journey?

I am sensitive and I get nauseated. The scenery is stunning and worth it if that is part of the reason why you are doing it. Of course interaction with locals and the food in small towns was also wonderful, which I am sure you will get to experience on a bus journey as well.

Temperature: it was never cold during the day. Long sleeve T or light jacket should be fine unless you are taking a night bus (which I hope not as that would take away all the positives of a bus trip and leave you with negatives of a 10 hour journey). Let me know if you have any more questions.

I haven't given Colombia a chance in this regard so I need to seriously consider it. Also flying in Colombia is almost more of a pain in the ass. The security is out of control.

Thanks again for the response.[/QUOTE]I flew inside Colombia (domestic) and never had any security issues and may be I was lucky. In fact, I had a very positive experience one. A while ago I forgot my brand new iphone at one of the screening points in BOG and only remembered about it after I landed in CTG. The staff tracked it down and made sure I got it in CTG, a day later. I cannot imagine that happening in most countries in the world. As you can tell, I love Colombia for many reasons including their airlines.

BTW, there would be a minimum of 5. 6 check points but we were only stopped twice on a moto. When they did, they were super friendly. Colombia is infinitely more friendly and I felt more safe there than in Mexico and you know I am a Mexico veteran (smile).
