Centro Is Definitely Back
Went down to El Centro today. Yes, a lot of folks out shopping because of the tax holiday, but the hoes are back to pre-Covid levels, maybe even more because Venezuela has taken over. At about 4 pm I was near Ground Zero, more or less in front of the Tostao, chatting with a fellow gringo. Two young men along with two women approached and asked me (and separately the other guy) to buy them beers. I politely declined. One of the guys was trying to get into my personal space, so we moved away from them. The two guys quickly re-approached and he touched my shoulder. I told him not to touch me, and we walked away. I saw them coming again and I tried to walk away, but one of them jumped right in front of me and displayed a knife, a black-handled 4-inch folder. The two guys then went hands-on with me and there was a scuffle. I thought I was going to lose my shirt (and also get stabbed), but broke free, and they didn't pursue me after that. The whole thing from the first contact took about two or three minutes, I think.
As Orgasmico noted, El Centro was packed today, but nobody came to my assistance. There were no cops within eyesight; I had noted that there were many, many cops in Botero proper and near the drum circle, but there were none around when I got attacked.
This one couldn't have been avoided, as they came after me twice after I walked away, and there were no police nearby.

First and foremost I am more than happy that you are safe, I recently said, Robberies and schemes are at an all-time high, you must be extremely careful, these are desperate times and people are trying many new schemes to rob Americans and other foreigners. I told you this also, I have seen the entire process in action and I have thanked my lucky stars that I have not been robbed or poisoned.
How do robberies in Parque Botero occur? They are well aware that many gringos love skinny white skinned girls, so they send these girls specifically at gringos that look like they are easy targets.

They thought the knife would scare you and when it didn't this is when they became desperate, but you began to move more towards the statues and there are more cops in this area, this is why they did not pursue you. I have said it once and I will say it again, as a foreigner, please be careful. These people are desperate and their behavior is showing it.
