The firest thing I would say is that if you are new to Istanbul please please stay away from the touts on the street. They seem to be the nicest most helpfull people, just there for you. I know of one guy who fell for the smooth talk and ended up with a bill for $600 for a beer. Apparently he also bought champange for a girl. He had no choice but to pay, yes they were big.

I have never had a problem in Aksaray, however it can be a bit un-nerving. For consistency of service I use the MPs. You will generally pay about 100TL for the cashier for 1 hour and then tip the lady, I usually tip around 100TL as well. Service can vary so look for one with a smile who actually want to spend the time with you. Also, I am always nice to them and treat them with respect. Works wonders.
