An Isis suspect would not come under as intensive a surveillance as the smoker who lights up between Soi 3 and 21. Once the "mark" is spotted he or she is passed by the Thetsakij, from sector to sector along Sukhumvit until eventually finding nowhere to discard the butt end it is dropped on the pavement. This is the gotcha moment and you are escorted to a mobile fines office / table to pay a 2000 fine. Now you have littered, a disgusting habit needing to be dealt with, but it is not as if Bangkok pavements are pristine stretches of pedestrian paradise, far from it, that along with the lack of bins, the fact that only foreigners are targeted and other flagrant breaches of the law are ignored makes this nothing more than a set up by a bunch of BMA inspectors (not police) known as Thetsakij, who city wide rake in millions every week.

With nothing better to do I decided to have a little fun with this bunch. I don't even smoke but I lit up at the beginning of Soi 5. Immediately the nearest uniform alerted the team a smoker was on his way. My progress was kept under surveillance as I passed by 4 of them until I reached 19. I make a motion as if throwing it away as the nearest Thatsakij moves in for the pinch. I stop, turn around and walk back down Sukhumvit with the butt still in my hand again passing by the 4 who are now all intensely interested in what I am going to do until I get to 7/1. Again I make like I am going to throw it away. Again the pinch is on but then I take out my little bag, put in the offending butt end, put the bad back in my pocket, turn, give a big smile and head off for a beer and a massage. I know, childish but I enjoyed it.

Perhaps not advisable to repeat as some of these guys look like they moonlight as hit men.

Advice to members, don't litter but if you get caught 500 (no receipt) suffices although it takes some time to negotiate.

I have certainly noticed it applying to me on my recent visits. When I go there alone, I am in agreement with Eszpresszo in that it is best not to waste much time; zero in on a couple of likely candidates and approach. Don't get stuck glued to the bar letting too much time pass while the glue really settles in and makes it more difficult to detach yourself from it to make your move. And when you do come in and get right to it, make sure you fake a truly sincere smile and light attitude about it. Whether you choose a girl here tonight is of little "emotional" consequence since there are so many outside that door waiting for you instead. That kind of cavalier attitude with a confident smile. Regardless of looks or age, I believe it is that kind of demeanor that will make a Thermae girl more apt to feel good about walking out with you. You are the kind of guy other girls hope and wish they could bag this night as well, and the girl you have chosen knows it.

This is quite different from conditions in a go-go bar or beer bar, imo, where the trophy catch of the night is likely the guy buying lots of Lady Drinks for the girl and any "cousin" who walks by. Thermae is not a Lady Drink and barfine venue so you don't position yourself for a better result by expecting it to be similar.

And if you have found yourself stuck to that bar so long the glue has really settled in, start up a friendly conversation with the sullen lone fellow next to you, Asian or Farang. Chances are very good that guy is going through the same feelings as you and will perk up just as you should when you start chatting about which girl looks good over there, why some of the cuter, younger ones hang back in the second or third row on the toilet side of the room or whatever. That perking up is exactly the kind of "signs of life" that I alluded to in the above first paragraph that will make you a more desirable trophy win for the lucky girl you choose, if any.

On the nights where I have come in alone then made quick friends with the sullen lone fellow next to me or come in chatting it up with a buddy are the times when I have gotten the most aggressive smiles, nods and positive affirmation from those girls. It is, I believe, the "signs of life" or, more to the point, "signs of pleasant and fun life" that those girls are looking for in order to feel comfortable about walking out with a Farang instead of an Asian. If anything, that is more the advantage Asian guys bring to the game in Thermae rather than their race, their size, endurance level or the supposed (or suspect, imo) overpaying. They generally arrive in pairs, groups, waves of chatty, smiling, happy friends to check out the merchandise. That is what is missing among most of the Farangs those girls see in the place.

I realize this might seem to some to be jumping through hoops to appeal to the girls in Thermae but I only see it as a slightly different approach from what one does in a go-go bar or beer bar. True, today's Thermae is not the place to go for a pecker grab from a girl you've never been with. Although that has happened to me recently, too. And she was a very attractive lady, too. Yep, I was standing next to a friend chatting it up and not paying that much attention to the girls around us. And, of course, if one is not impressed by the looks of the girls there or they are not hopeful for the prospects for getting your kind of GFE or PSE for the night (more often my issue), then I suppose it is a moot point and definitely not worth any thought given to a different approach. For me, I rarely see a night where there are 50+ girls in Thermae that I can't also see at least 10-15 of them worthy of absorbing my precious ejaculate, based purely on looks that is. But that's me.

To illustrate my point about Asian vs Farang customer interest from the girls at Thermae being based much more on our demeanor than on our race, age, looks and so on, I have a few times in the past several months taken the line up stroll through Thermae with a grey haired, 67 year old (and looked it) black man with a belly hanging over his belt and I swear he got as many smiles of approval, nods, winks, even reach outs as I have ever seen for Asians in that place. He had no problem taking a girl of his choosing on more than one of those occasions. But he was neatly dressed in nice slacks and a casual but collared Polo-type shirt, real shoes, had a big smile on his face, the two of us chatting briefly here and there as we took that stroll; "signs of pleasant and fun life". There was nothing about his race, age or looks that made those girls less than enthusiastic about being seen walking out with him.

The "Thetsakij" spelling is not very helpful to pronounce it.

It is clearly a long running scam but I would be interested to hear what happens to guys refusing to pay and telling them to call the real Police. Police are corrupt as well. Obviously Thais don't pay so are not targeted. I refused to pay from a scam in an upstairs PhatPong bar 25 years ago, and nothing happened to me. The tough guys just backed down in the end.

I wonder if these inspectors would have drugs to plant on guys who are too difficult to scam easily.

I once had a quarter of one Kamagra tablet confiscated by a cop, stopping taxis once, on Sukhumvit-Asoke corner. That is all I had for emergencies, in my wallet. LOL. He seemed to know what it was. Purely because I like to have time to study how they interact with others and to choose the best girl rather than pulling the trigger too early. Often takes time to assess her likely figure under some very non revealing outfits too.

However with recent refusal by a stunner waiting for someone, it was pretty clear that I approached her at the first opportunity, without delay other than waiting for a Japanese guy to stop talking to her and go away.
