First, in general none of these places is ever going to earn stars in a Michelin Guide. This is Phnom Penh, and we're talking about fairly seedy establishments, any of the places mentioned in this thread really. Expectations should be set quite low. Read back in the forum and you'll see that a few years ago the main issues in the customer service area of these places was such things as how likely you were to be shot by a local thug (who would likely be the son of a top ranking government minister). At HOD it was all about the way all the foreigners were being frisked for guns before entering, while the gun-toting rich kids and their well-armed bodyguards were not. (so basically they wantd to make sure we weren't armed before they shot us) And shootings did happen there, a few times. So now these days, one of these places, your Pontoon (never been there myself) obviously has some weird system where they keep the tables open for customers they prefer. Or else refuse it to customers they don't prefer. Either way, in the real world that would suck. But you're not really in the real world there, you've kind of entered the last vestiges of the Cambodian Wild West. I mean look at the place, it's full of hookers and seedy characters there to pick them up. Or so I hear. But I know it sucks to be treated shabbily. Maybe if you'd gone straight to the table and ordered from there it might have been different. Who knows.

Second, if this place is anything like Martinis in its vibe, or even HOD, probably not the #1 spot to be bringing your date (especially if she's not the type who would be, um, working there on a night you're not with her).
