For 4 years I dated one Korean woman exclusively and my buddy lived with a Korean woman for 10 years. Through those acquaintances, I learned that several of these Korean people like to show off by spending large sums of money in ways that are visible to their friends. Fancy cars. Gambling. Rushing to pay the check at a fancy dinner for 8 people. I've seen 2 of these people frivolously spend money to the extent that they lost their McMansions, moved to small rental townhouses, and exchanged their Mercedes Benz cars for inexpensive economy cars.

I've only been mongering with one Korean man and he does not seem to be an out of control spender. Still, spending far more money than necessary is 100% consistent with what I've seen from Koreans living in USA.
