Yes you are correct. That might be an issue with me. As far as I know I would need to go to chihuahua then to mochis to get to culiacan. Then probably torreon to moneterry to get to NL.

I was hoping I could arrive in juarez and have decent access to other border towns.

Juarez would interest me but as far as I get from RTFF it's all about the MP's in the day then nothing goes on at night. I could only do a few days of that. I like tijuana and was hoping to find another border town I could alternate it with.

If you're thinking of riding the bus through Mexico, why not check out some interior towns rather than just border towns. Chihuahua is less than 5 hours from Juarez by bus and you can find some mongering action if you speak a little Spanish or are willing to pay a guide. You do need a permit to travel more than 25 miles from the border. They're only about $10, and take a few minutes to get at the customs stations near the border. You have to pay at a bank separate from the customs station - something to consider for Sundays and holidays. As far as border towns, the most efficient way to tour them would be by U.S. bus, even though U.S. service sucks by comparison. As of a year ago Nogales still had nightlife. Check that forum to see if that's still the case.

This is good advice. I just looked at the greyhound schedule and it's filled with stops before it get to laredo texas...16hrs roughly.

I was thinking about chihuahua and photographing copper canyon....maybe take a ride on "chepe" the train. However there really isn't much on chihuahua here. I assume it's one of those "every town in mexico has a brothel" situations ? Is there anything distinct about mongering there like good SW areas compounds etc ?

My timing might be a little off. I am looking at DEC 1 - DEC 22 roughly. I would be concerned about showing up places without a reservation.

The first couple of weeks would be low season. Towards the end is holiday season and you might need reservations even on the bus. Copper canyon has a new aerial tram that might be fun. If I had that much time I would hit the coast. Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta are about a day's ride from Juarez.
