I've only been visiting the Mayorista for over 10 years without ever a problem. The place, the chicas are controlled. I've known chicas to be banned for fighting with other chicas.

You just can't show up and be a tough-guy with these chicas.

Showing a little kindness opens up some of their guard.

I've had some real GFE out there, with some being pretty hot, I've become friends with others, and I've had some so-so performers too, but NEVER a fight, an argument or a weapon pulled.

Of course the Mansion girls will generally be more refined and generally well behaved, but their 150 KP doesn't guarantee a GFE either.

Lots of avenues for FUN in Medellin, including the Mayorista, especially if you're a good-hearted guy and you can speak at least some conversational espanol, and you keep your Rambo boots at home.

As you know, at the casas you get a parade of chicas, you choose one and go have fun. Done.

At the Mayorista and other similar places, you chill, check out the chicas, have a drink, get a bite to eat, walk about and try to find one you like.

The place ain't for everyone. To really have fun there you just have to mix it up a bit with a chica / chicas.

I would always recomend having fun with a chica there at one of the motels instead of bringing her 'home', at least at first.

After getting to know her a bit, and she trusts you too, anything is cool.

Usually the first thing I do when I get to the Mayorista is buy several chicas some food and have a shot of rum or 'guaro' with some chicas just to get the fun rolling.

Big deal, it'll cost ya less than $20 bucks and you'll have fun.

These chicas, dealing with guys, a. Holes their entire lives, appreciate some carino (affection).

VicPics just stayed there 2 weeks along with a bunch of my other guests, they had a great time. I have also been to the other strip of bars by San Antonio (I think). I just can't find any chicas I like in these places (lookswise).. I'm not discouraging anyone from going. You should definitely check out out at least once. For me, El Centro stripclubs is a good balance. Next time I am going to check out Libido and La Manzana.

To add a little bit to Ricker's post. My 'hood is the Red Light area by the iglesia de la Veracruz around Carrera 53, Calle 51.

There's a cafe on that corner I think its called Arbolitos, (no name on the outside) thats my hangout during the daytime. I go there, have a coffee and pastrie and just chill out. Sometimes I get into conversations with the Colombian guys there checking out the action. I've never seen a US dude there.

I get a table on the street and just watch the chicas go by. Some will give me the eye, the aggressive ones come and sit down on my table and start talking, trying to get me to go have sex with them. And others dont even notice me.

But I can peruse the action and see what I like. To me, I'm in heaven.

The place closes early like 7 or 8pm. But I'm out of there by then.

no matter how well a place is controlled, girls in mayorista are more like free lancer, street walker type of deal as we all know. they do hang around at the bar but they are not really bar girls. (like sosua, dr or sjo, cr)

i looked around but didn't find any girl i liked. i was about to head home but this one girl standing next to me started talking to me. she acted really sweet and we had good conversation. (hint, i do speak spanish enough to pick up local girls and do things with them. turn them into gf. etc etc.) she wasn't usual type of girl i go for, but she had really cute face and looked pretty young. i asked her how old she is, and she replied 18. i asked her "tienes cedula contigo? " and she replied "si, mi amor". i know the normal rate for mayorista girl is 25k for 30min and that usually included full gfe services for me in the past. most gave me dfk and many gave me bbbj in the past for that price. i asked the girl, " te gusta beso? porque prefiero besar chica en la boca con lingua. i wanted to leave but she insisted that i sit down on bed. and she gave me a serious look. i was wondering, now what is this chic trying to pull? and she tells me that her mom is sick. she also tells me that she wants extra money. i look straight into her eye and told her no. i already paid her and gave her more than enough for services she gave me. i knew that this chic was up for trouble and upto no good. i could see her pupil darting left right like she is high on drug. (5th bad sign) i tried to leave but she stood in front of door and blocked/prevented me from exiting. i asked her nicely that she let me go. she kept her firm demand for more money. i told her no. she bend over to reach for her knife. i held her hand holding a knife. but her other hands were free. she went and reached for her other knife in other boots. 2 knives. one chic. jeez. i wonder what this girl is thinking. i held both of her wrists with my hands. put them together on my left hand and grabbed door with my right hand.

i pushed the girl to the wall and opened the door and ran like hell. when i got near the entrance, i realized that the motel was gated and i can't exit until buzzed out. i told the owner that the girl is crazy and she threatened me with a knife for money. she wouldn't let me go either. girl came out with her knives hidden. she insisted that i pay her. i told the motel owner that i already paid her 40k and that is what i agreed but this girl is trying to rob more money from me with knife. she told me to wait and got the mamasan of the whole mayorista area. looks like she is mami for the whole working girls. she asked me how much i paid her. i told her 40k for about half hour. i saw her talking to the girl for a bit and told the girl that she must let me go. she got furious and slapped me on my face and went back to room. i think she went to grab the knives that she hid. just in case, police comes.

i walked out of this incident with only minor scratch on my arm but i had story and experience to tell my friends. mayorista girls might seem cheap but it is not really that cheap. casa girls are better bargain and safer. not to mention all the risks std, ****(no cedula) and other issue these girls have. it is true that there are also nice girls but choices are slim and services are not as good as it was before 8month ago during summer. it is your money and your life. it is your choice. only thing i can do is simply tell you guys my experience on account of what happened at mayorista. i am no noobie at mongering and i've traveled about 20 different countries. i've also stayed and visited roughest area and avoided many troubles. times are rough and poor people get more desperate at this desperate times. crime rate going up all over the world isn't just imagination. it is reality. traveling in colombia, one should take extra caution. while there are other safer venues in mde, mayorista doesn't appeal to me as my future destination now.

now you heard my story. as i recount, i didn't make any mistake, i didn't put myself into this position by any means. just ran into one of those bad apples. it can happen to anyone and not just me. better safe than sorry. at least reputable girls, casa girls, mansion girls, we know nothing like this is going to happen. it is all up to you. if you are that adventurous type that doesn't mind getting knife pulled on you, i say go head with mayorista!

I'm not nit picking but the 4 bad signs (as you put it) you chose to ignore kinda takes away from you saying you didn't make any mistakes. And by the 5th bad sign it was too late.

Anyway, the one thing I would say to anyone who finds themselves in the same situation is once they get out of such a situation at Mayorista; REPORT IT TO THE POLICE!

It's just me but I would have told the girl at the desk to open the gate and not go into detail as to why (get out first is the right idea). Telling the front desk gal the girl you were with was crazy was no concern of hers. She hasn't any reason not to open the gate. Demand it be open or start yelling for the police. Once open and out, find an officer or have another hotel or taxi driver call the police. Believe me they will be there in a heartbeat.

Why call the police? Because it keeps the girls (and guys) in check that gringos are there to spend money but not to have it taken away. I can almost guarantee the girl would have been scared shitless if she got caught with the knives and on drugs. If she hid the knives still being on drugs could cause her problems.

More than just a few bad apples pop up from time to time in Mayorista which is why the police patrol the area frequently.

Mayorista girls are still safer than street walkers in El Centro in my opinion but there are those who still swear by them as well so go figure.

I believe Ricker told me once of a bloodied girl come running out of a Mayorista hotel butt naked with a local chasing her with a gun.

I have seen fights break out and the police were there in a heartbeat and hauled away the riff raff with no questions asked, just gone in 60 seconds!

While at Mayorista I can not say that your situation would not happen to me but the signs I look for and AVOID are if the girl looks like she is on drugs or drunk AND if they ask for money up front.

BTW Fellas; I never wrote this before but once when I had some time to kill at Mayorista I went into the lobby's of each of the hotels along the strip. I inquired as to how much the rooms were for short time and longer and all night. Surprisingly the all night room was only an average of 6, 000 pesos more than the 1/2 hour (most were 18, 000 all night)! Also those rooms are usually on the second floor or higher and are clean and have fresh sheets and pillow cases and not just moped and straightened out from the last couple. You can also bring another/different girl in for another round for another 6, 000 pesos.

ALSO; for the 1/2 hour short time, I asked if I was not able to seal the deal with the girl (like she turns sour once inside the room) and had to leave, could I get my money back for the room (like after 5 or 10 minutes and the room is still the same way as when we entered). Not surprisingly they ALL said no BUT they ALL said I would have a credit and if I brought another girl that same night I would not have to pay another fee for the same 1/2 hour room.

So if you don't want to hear that knock on the door and/or if you are going to be romping with more than one chica that night, go for the all night room.
