The average employee at a retail store only makes 10 rmb an hour. They usually work 10-12 hours a day. Monthly about 1600-2000. 7k RMB per month is a great wage, most retail store managers make $5k. So your friend makes a great wage and gets some exercise with it.

I think because plenty of guys will be indulgent, they get something extra often enough. But unless she really was THAT good and / or you plan to see her again, quite frankly I have never benefited from giving a tip beyond what was initially negotiated.

I've seen the board for hotel recommendations for hotels around Manhattan. Unfortunately, they're a little out of my price range at the moment. From my search I found a nearby hotel. Baolong Hotel. I found no mention of it in prior posts. It seems there's a chain of them in Shanghai. Price is in my range. Anyone familiar with it and if it's girl friendly?
Or are there any other budget hotels you're familiar with near Manhattan or Jing-an? I'm trying to find something less than $60.
Anyone paid Datong a visit recently? Has it improved any? I am going back to Shanghai again at the end of June and thought about checking it out.
By the way, I will be there from June 24th to July 3rd if anyone wants to meet up.

I forgot to say, in addition to paying what you negotiate and nothing more, I have found it is usually better to pay after the deed.
Why? Once the girl is paid up front, she has no incentive to do a good job. In fact, in the few times as a rookie I paid up front, the girl usually tried to get me off asap and the experience was usually pretty mediocre and once it was pretty damn bad.
Also, it may seem harsh to not give a tip, especially to the uninitiated Americans who are used to tipping, but what you negotiate is all she expects. Nothing more. I know this may sound harsh to those who are used to tipping but, this isn't the US, this is China.
Do as the local custom, not what you would do at home, that's all I am saying. I suggest that for pretty much anywhere I travel around the world.

I have recommended the hotel to several friends who were traveling on a budget and needed somewhere central to stay. Doesn't look much from the outside but good value for money. And it is a two minute walk from Manhattan to Hotel door to door.
