I wouldn't say he professed to know everything about Colombia. Quite the country, he was wholly ignorant of language and culture and didn't care. He had fearless determination in finding new girls all over the city and countryside to date himself, or put to work for him. I can't say that I liked him much. But, I gained useful knowledge about living here from observing him. He was remarkably reckless, arrogant, and disrespectful. His guilt or innocence is beyond a shadow of a doubt with me. I won't say which. But, he was in Colombian prison for likely a very long time. Probably an almost unimaginable place for a pure Gringo, when at normal capacity. I read they are filled to about 300% intended capacity. So pure misery 24-7. His only deliverance would be to a Federal US prison. I know there was some evidence that he planned to off himself as escape plan if and when things unravelled for him. Don't be like Jake.

To me, he came across as an arrogant know-it-all. My remembrance is that he often told others they were wrong and then told them how it should be done. That is the basis of my impression of him thinking he knew everything.

As far as I know, US only does entry stamps and not exit stamps, for non US passport holders. Not sure if they do entry stamps for US passport holders. With global entry they don't stamp anything while entering the country for US passports.
Many countries including Colombia do entry and exit stamps for foreigners. Not sure how closely they match them up, but they are usually stamped close by.
Also, there is the situation with dual citizenship / passport holders. Say US and Colombian passports. Usually, the standard operating procedure for this scenario is to enter and exit each country with its own passport. So the stamps don't match up, unless both the passports are examined together.
As far as I know, US will admit it's citizens, as long as they prove citizenship. I don't think they really care how you left the country. Not sure what Colombian policy is on admitting it's citizens.

Everything is electronically scanned now in air "ports of entry"(USA) No stamping. I think you all know this.
