I found places like Il Patio, Millemiglia and Fellini disgusting in terms of italian food. Da Vinci has an italian menu that is decent, but severely overpriced. Also Da Mario is not so bad and has a nice atmosphere... but still nothing I can live without. I wonder if it would be a good business to open a real top-notch italian restaurant in Kiev :D

In general Kiev Restaurants need also to learn how to keep wines... I got wines that were damaged several times, with so-called sommeliers and waiters saying that they were good and that the taste difference I observed was what makes the wine special... Funny that in Kiev acidity increases value!

I have read with interest the discussion here whether to take girls to fancy restaurants and dine and wine them or if a cup of coffee is sufficient:))! My answer is that this depends on the girl. Some girls used to a higher standard – or used to look at men like a walking ATM will think you are cheap and greedy if you don’t invest some money. This represents some of the hottest girls. I have experienced both. As a regular Kiev traveller in connection with work, I am here only for 3-4 days each time and also being busy during the day, so this puts severe limits on my “work mode” with girls. Fellini is the worst pasta in Kiev, it only plus point is it in the center near my apartment!

Fellini's used to be great 3 years ago. The only thing they have going for them now is 24/7 and the decor. I was never a big fan of DaVinci - found it to be extremely over priced for the meal and the decor was/is dizzying. Never thought much of Nobu and Nobel (is Nobel still open?) Il Patio used to serve good homey Italian food 2 or so years ago - not anymore. The was/is a Spanish place called LaPenta or something like that which I liked. Try Dolce over by the Dnipro hotel - it used to have quite the 'wow' factor to impress the girls. I heard the Italian food over at Decadence was good. But that is coming from a Ukrainian girl who's probably never had real Italian food.

Try Mr Snack. I'd say go to McD but then you would get stuck behind Ash buying some girls Happy Meals. :D

Anything having to do with the service sector is just a wild dream in Kiev, except for sex. If you are an oenophile I did hear there is a upscale wine bar in Kiev. Just ask the desk at the Hyatt.

There are no general criteria... The point is that each of use has really the possibility to get and enjoy what he likes. So you are happy of your results, I'm happy of mine and many other here are the same. that's what makes Kiev great, even if mongering/sponsoring costs went up in the recent past.
