Second trip in 3 months.

Weekend in Havana, 2 nights in Varadero, and 6 more nights in Havana.

Used a taxi "friend" to check out apartments before arrival to ensure they are what was advertised. Found a great 2 bedroom at the Focsa. This was my second time staying on La Rampa. I think I will stay closer toward the university on my next trip.

We hit the following places during our time there:

Salon Rojo-definitely some hard core pro's. Best to hang out at the bar and conduct your interviews there. LOL.

Gato Cuerto-Better for the music than the talent.

Casa De Musica-Miramar-Went here twice. Always a good time. Gorgeous women. Starting price is 80 CUC. They go down to 60 CUC.

Dos Gardenias-You couldn't pay me enough to go back to that trashy smoke filled place. Horrible.

Club 3 to 8. I think that was the name of it. Interesting place. Good to dance. Didn't see too many pro's.

Shangrila-I love this small bar in Miramar. Very classy girls. Definitely a great place to check out.

Bolabana-This place is a monster hit. It just opened 3 months ago. Its in Playa. Great energy and some serious eye candy. Definitely add it to your list.

Varadero was a waste of time besides getting some sun. Saw some SW's but they were trash meat. No gracias.

A few things I learned on this trip from some of my true Cuban friends.

*They told me that if you have an unlocked android phone that you can access the free wireless network that's available in Cuba. Anyone know anything about that?

*Cell phone service and messages are very hit and miss during 12/31-2/1. Too many users on the cubacell network. I had major issues getting and receiving messages from chicas.

*I was offered 1 to 1 CUC to USD exchange by the Cubana airlines ticket counter employee upon leaving. That's some good info for next time.

*My buddy got his US passport stamped but I didn't. I was jealous. Haha.

Anyone know of any hotels that have American television or satellite service for big events like the Super Bowl?

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, this is my first post as well as my first day on this site. I am from the USA And have some time off beginning this weekend, and I would like to go to Havana for a week or so. I am having some difficulty finding a travel agency that will actually get back to me promptly, so far I have also tried two in Canada, it seems we talk on the phone one day or email, then you can't get a hold of them. Can any travel agent in Canada help me? As so far I just Googled "Cuba travel" and picked some that came up.

However, if you're highly motivated, buy a ticket to Cancun and when you get there, talk to Cubana Airlines and buy a ticket for the next available flight to Havana. When you get to Havana, ask a taxista to take you around to see some cases. There are always places available. If you speak decent Spanish, this should be no problem. But again, you're going to pay a lot to get a flight at the last moment. And it's high season for travel to Mexico / Caribean so even more so right now.

Let us know what happens if you actually go through with it. Again, not very difficult at all if you're willing to shell out the $$.

I can get some sweet deals on a US carrier. I have found prices from Cancun to Havana on Aeromexico for $330.00, leaving next week, but I would have to stay until Feb 6th, I can't stay more than 8 days though. I am sure they are like any other airline, where they have cancellations, so your idea of possibly going to Cancun and then go to the airline desk. I called these two Canadian travel agents and they found the same price, but I haven't been able to get them to pick up now. Late last week I contacted CubaLinda and they are very slow to respond.

I think that the hard part is going to be locating an agent who wants to spend more than 2 minutes doing some searches, LOL.

There us a flight departing Toronto 1/26 to varadero returns 2/2. Toughly $380 Canadian or more or less $350 American. Beware the opin of senior members.

Where I live, and with the deal I get with an airline, it would make more sense for me to fly to Cancun or Nassau, and from what I hear the flights from Cancun are at a better price.

Now to pick some good Casa's I don't mind staying in one and "renting" another close by when I need it. As I mentioned I just joined this site yesterday, I'll look around here today and I am sure many of my questions will be answered.

It's usually easiest to go directly to the airlines. I t also depends where you want top fly from and where you're going. All Canadian flights to Cuba go through Montreal or Toronto. Air Canada through Toronto and Cubana from Montreal. This assumes that you want to fly to Havana. If you want to go anywhere else in Cuba, like Varadero for instance, and then bus in to Havana, you can do this through a variety of agencies that deal in package tours. You can sometimes get last minute packages to crappy Cuban resorts all in AI cost for less than the straight flight to Cuba on the airlines. Of course then you need to hop a bus to Havana. Can be worth it. If you're dealing with Air Canada then you need to go to their subset called Air Canada vacations. They will book you immediately, but call early because their hold times can be brutal. Cubana is just a straight call but their service sucks and their employees have notoriously light fingers with your luggage. Go figure, cubans taking your stuff. LOL. Travel carry on only. .

Online travel sites are useless because they are usually US based and won't book Cuban destinations. In the south it's generally easier and faster (not always) to go through Mexico or Panama, but the airlines often gouge there. Booking last minute will probably be horribly expensive in either case, but the markup always seems to be higher when booking through southern points. Hope that helps.

Thank you, I called a few places today, and tomorrow I do plan on calling the airlines direct. I would really like to fly out of Cancun over to Havana as flying on the USA Carrier I'll be up front, not in coach. So I would rather that the USA Carrier flight be longer and the flight to Havana the shortest, LOL.

I would like to get AeroMexico out of Cancun, if I can. Or, decide on Toronto, that's just a 3 1/2 flight into Havana correct? But I'll have to see the cost there, as AM out of Cancun would only be $335 USD.

Do these airports offer baggage wrap? That should help a little to prevent someone entering your bag, I would guess. Does each airline have their own people in Havana? Or is it like CDG in Paris and the airport people handle your baggage?

I do know that I want to stay in Old Town at a Casa, I may venture out of Havana for a day or night, I don't know yet.

Final, question, for now anyway, how are customs in Toronto for a USA Citizen? And I was going to attempt to bring back some cigars without the wrapping, and if I would go to, lets say Cancun, spend a night there and during that time look for a cigar store and get a box of cheap cigars and throw them away and just keep the receipts to attempt to prove that I bought the cigars I have in Cancun, LOL.

In every case the service declined and the demand for tips increased. I have never been to Cuba but from all reports it is a worthwhile destination for our hobby. To the extent that you infer that I am selfish in my concern for my probable future experience in Cuba you are correct.
