There will Always be the Naysayers
A quick way to lose respect of Colombians is to throw money around liberally on people unrelated to you. Its my understanding and experience that in this culture money is exclusively for family or occasionally for the absolute closest of Family friends with a long history. Being tight fisted will gain respect for you. Throwing money around, you look like a damned fool and a joke. I find a way to interject economic hardship into every dialogue and interaction.
Working remotely. Dollars in, pesos out. This has been a colossal and difficult transition for me, but I'm glad I got started 5 years ago, its paying off now.
I have really made a ton of money since arriving here in Medellin. If $5800 in a period of 6 months, is more than you can handle, you shouldn't be mongering. When you have been living with a chic for 4 months, and you haven't given her more than a Million Pesos, the swap isn't that bad at all. I keep telling you and others, the worst thing you can do is tell another BM how to spend his money. If I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't do it, but to have access to Medellin for a full year and no longer have to travel with luggage is a benefit itself. I was never here looking for respect, I came to bang chics and make my experience hassle free! Pollo Negro is out!
