I should have reconfirmed the all-night deal just before giving her the money. In retrospect I don't know whether it would have been awkward to spend the rest of the day and all night with her or fun. in response to your hotel question, if you're willing to pay a little extra without going for luxury and/or business hotels i recommend hotel merit antique. it's the only five star hotel in laleli and it's comfortably located two blocks away from mustapha kemal cad. my european background tends to make me believe that the upmarket hotels try to "maintain a certain standard" whereas the seedier ones are easier to bend, but in istanbul it's very much the opposite: people who pay a premium price expect and demand that, in return for their money, they can do whatever they like. merit antique's staff does not even give you second looks when you walk in with the night's "catch". their list prices are, it must be admitted, very high, but if you use an online booking service you can get a double room for around 120 dollars (=100 euros, which is normally my limit).

Just a note on my recent experiences in Istanbul:

Irmak, Gold Can and Pig Pub are safe. Actually Gold Can had a pretty good selection even though it was early afternoon when I got there.

I was at Seranda in December, and took a Ukranian back then for a 2-hours/3-shots whichever happens earlier deal and paid her $50. This time all girls quoted $100 for two hours and quality of the girls were not commensurate. Seranda might be deteriorating...

I got the impression that the gist of the LE operation was to clamp down on "visible" activities that might offend ordinary people: the late night action was as vibrant as ever and naturally you were free to take as many girls to your place (if you have one...) as you cared, but afternoon places, open-air places and "respectable" hotels mixing punters with bona fide guests were definitely feeling the heat. Maybe this was all due to the fact that a big UN conference was in town during my visit, but, then again, those big honchos are not supposed to roam this part of town, are they? ;-)

I spent three nights in town, the first two of which quite agreeable. In Istanbul earlier this month I phoned Arsen's friend at 0535 516 9295. She is Hungarian but spent 3 years in Madrid so she speaks Spanish pretty well. Very little English. Called herself Margarita.
