After a few weeks I have things set, and I plan on going to Havana in two weeks. I am just trying to figure out where to stay. Some people have told me that I may enjoy the Hotel Tropicoco? They say it is near the beach and east of Havana. Any advice? Thank You!

They are correct in saying it is near the beach and east of Havana.

My buddy recently stayed at the Islazul Hotel Caribbean in Havana and took the bus to the beach when needed. He was happy, but they don't have food included just so you know.

Just finished a week hanging out in Cuba with Grownman and I want to thank him for being the perfect wingman. He was always on time for every scheduled meet. He wasn't at 100 percent but never complained and hung like a champ. Also had the pleasure of hanging out with JohnnyVegas. He rode with us and had a ball. I'm sure he is already planning his next trip to Cuba.

It's funny because after 5 trips I considered myself a Havana veteran but Havana still had a few surprises for me to learn. First, let me state that I've seen some changes from when I was last there in August. I stay in Habana viego and in August most things were closed at midnight when I returned home. This trip I counted 10 new restaurants and bars that stayed open very late. I could actually bar hop in Habana viego late at night. The tour groups seemed bigger and I noticed nine buses staged in Habana viego. Also my prized casa is booked for the next two months as everyone wants to stay in have. I found a restaurant on Obispo, next to the park toward the historic district with a ten cuc special. For 10 cuc you could get lobster, rice, salad, desert and a cocktail of your choice. I found the best hamburger joint that makes those thick hamburgers like granny used to make for 2 cuc. Additionally we found some good home cooked Cuban food at a house in Centro Habana where you can get sweet potatoes, chicken, rice and beans for 1. 5 cuc (that's not a misprint).

I also made a mistake if renting a car and checking out some of the surrounding cities. It was a 300 cuc mistake. It's hard for a gringo to just go there and pull girls during the day unless you have a guide or know someone there. It's a very simple life there and the girls just don't approach you plus the Cuban dudes might take of fence at some rich gringo coming to fuck his girls. We went to Santiago de la Vega and a few other towns that way, but each city will be different.

The weather was wonderful each day we were there. Had several good and bad exchanges with " the Mack" (more on that later). Got stood up by my regular in Santiago de la Vega only to find her replacement on the drive back to Havana. Don't want to lead out with the reporting so I will step aside as I always enjoy newbie report better than I enjoy mine.

I would like to first off thank Mr G aka Rick James bitcha for allowing me to be his wingman. He is a great mentor, punctual, man of his word, funny, adventurous, charismatic, generous, understanding and someone I can call my friend. Day 1 arriving at MIA airport my phone locks. I can't get it to come on it in emergency mode. I hadn't match up with Mr. G and it was imperative that we keep communication because we have only been texting each other and I don't know what he looks like. I had to borrow a nice Security Officer's to call AT&T get my phone on. I gave Mr G a call he was just walking around the airport. Just walking. That's what he does. As I was later to find out he does this a lot. We arrived in the Grand Cayman Mr G whom dots I (s) and crosses his T (s) like no other- gave me the game plan. Fill out the form tell them you going to Treasure Island for 1 day. Then just hop on the next flight to Cuba that same day after you clear Customs. This went well however, as I'm going through Customs in the GC the young man start questioning me on why I was traveling alone, only staying for 1 days and leaving tomorrow. The time then was about 9:45. I shot him some bullshit and he brought it. As we were going out 15 minutes later guess who's 1 of the to customs agents check us out. Mr. G tried to get in front of me so I can go the other Agent. However the guy knew my face he just Seen me 15 minutes ago coming in. I thought you was staying here for 2 days. I was busted. I could only reply we changed our minds.

I almost did not make the trip. I was feeling really down 3 weeks prior I can down with a case of jaundice due to a sick liver. My body constantly itched my eyes were yellow and I didn't feel good about traveling. I wasn't going to let my 740 deposit for the flight and 2 day hotel go to waste. Then we arrive in Cuba the bullshit again happen. The custom agent asked me to take off my glasses. She looked at me closely asked have I ever been to Africa. Mr. G tried to intercept however, she said I look sick. That jaundice had my eyes yellow and it look like I had Ebola. She would not let me through. She said I would have to buy a medical insurance card. Good thing I kept my own insurance card on me. Her boss came and look at me asked me if I had a medical card and any form of lD. I gave her my US Passport identification card. Is this your first time in Cuba? My response was yes she looks through my pass port and saw I was just in the DR last month. Made some computer copies of my pass port and insurance card and I was on my way. That was a close call. Mr G's travel agent set me up in Hotel Deauville for all 7 days. I later told her that I didn't want all 7 days I only wanted 2 days. I ever set myself to stay all sevens days at a hotel. 1) I have been reading you guys trip reports and knew the casa prices. Thank you fellas! 2) I don't like the hotel; I am stuck with trying to protect my investment that's $70 per night. I am not Johnny Vegas. I am a penny watcher. Our travel agent book us for the 8 pm leave from the Mia. By the time we cleared Customs in Cuba it was 1:30 am. Damn! I paid a whole day for nothing. The cab was a 20-30 minute ride. The nearest clubs closed at 3. We had about 45 good minutes to hit the scene. Mister G drop me off make sure I got checked. He asked me if I wanted to hit the scene. I manned up and said lets do it. He dropped his bag and came back to get me. I was so tired, drained, itchy sore and sick. I couldn't drink nothing but water the hold trip. For those who have read my trips reports before, You know I am a Stoner. All natural baby! We hit the club and the hotel it was about dead. Then another club walking distance from the hotel. We paid have to go in and have a look. That's when I met her. In a scale of 1 to 10 she was probably a 7 and reminded me of a hard core puta from the DR. About 5'5 135 lb caramel. I have been read the reports guys. She had her own place and I did not have to pay security 20 cuc which left the bad taste in my mouth. I jumped on the deal. The girl place was about a 2 minute warning from the hotel. Mr G left me he got rid of the girl who was with because she trying to convince us to go to an after hour club and pay 5 cuc per person. She was pulling on him to go back to the club and he walked away with her pleading her case. He later explain it was game she was running with the clubs to get guy to come in. Mr G caught an attitude with her and told her she was dismissed. Good for me I don't practice taking girls to the club. Its a waste of money and I was only drinking water. He said he was going to walked the Madicom at 4 in the morning solo. Walking is something he does I was later to learn walking is something I would also be doing much of. I get to the chicas apartment and her starts tell me we had to be gone in a hour. Had I been in the Dr I would have been walking out no questions. I felt like a like I was on backpage were the women had complete control over everything. She asked me for the money first and I told her hell no! She said this is how they do things in Cuba. I told her Cuba meet Tito and this is how I do things. I didn't even know if my Johnson would get hard. With the jaundice I haven't had the desire for sex or an erection in a month. Thanks also for mentioning going via Grand Cayman, I was delayed in making my reservations via Cancun and when I was able to make them, the flights over were booked passed Feb 21. Any advice for the GC airport would be appreciated. I am guessing you still get the visa card at the counter?

Day 1:

As I walk around MIA airport killing time I get a text from Grownman stating he had arrived at the gate. I was prepared to be greeted by some guy with his eyes glowing. Actually it wasn't that bad at all. As we are waiting to board a black Colombiana who lives in Andres lets me have a conversation with her. Damn should've got the email at least. We board the flight for our first flight which went smooth. I would soon find out that my Grownman and custom agents don't always see eye to eye. Grownman is a tall dude with all muscles and dressed to a tee, so I guess the customs agents are like " who is this guy?" I breeze through customs in Grand Cayman but GM is delayed. We finally get to Cuba and they question his health but he had his insurance card and we cleared the airport at 1:30 am. By the time we get to the hotel, check-in, and hit the streets its 2:30 am.

We first hit Deauville disco but nothing but some last minute desperate girls were there. We then walk two blocks to "Casa de musica" and enter there. Even at 2:45 the place was still packed. I quickly order two Cuba libres, both for me as I get a quick fix. The Indians had started to circle the wagon as GM was sitting alone. GM picked one and we headed to a place that was empty to do the interview. The owner put Bob Marley videos on as we were the only ones there, it was now 3:15 am. GM date called a friend for me which I didn't like but I was going to play along. Meanwhile a black Cuban walked in with two girls and sat down. DAY 1 - I flew from CA to Mexico City on United, then got a connecting flight on Cubana Air. Arrived early afternoon, exchanged some US $ for CUC for. 87 (that really sucks), headed over to my hotel, the Presidente in Vadado and got settled in. Fairly nice hotel but the usual Cuba 3rd world lack of basic necessities. $4. 50 for 1 hour of internet, not much hot water in the morning, etc. Took a taxi and toured around, saw La Habana and immediately fell in love with this classic city that's stuck back in time. Went to a Cafe to meet up with Mr. Gogo at 9:00 pm. After walking around the cafe asking guys at 3 tables if they were him. I actually found the right guy. And I'm so glad I did. Alex took Mr G and I to the apartment. Because we knew Alex the lady. She came and gave me the keys to the apartment and told me that I can move in tomorrow if I want. Wow she did not even have my personal information. I took the keys made an appointment with her and the owner tomorrow at 11. Alex was telling me I should get my stuff and move in right then. I told him that I told the lady I would be here tomorrow at 11 and that is what I'm going to do.
