Spa files appeal over rejected application

THE spa in Jalan Changkat Thambi Dollah, Pudu, that had been raided 16 times for vari ous offences, had appealed on Monday for City Hall to consider approving its operating licence.

The spa was raided by the I'm migration Department last Thursday for hiring illegal foreign women and for offering sex services in their premises.

In the three-hour operation, dubbed Ops Sayang, the department arrested 37 women, com prising 33 Chinese nationals, two Laotians and two Indonesians.

City Hall director-general Datuk Salleh Yusof said it had decided to reject the spa’s application after the operator was found to have carried out immoral activities at the premises recently.

"City Hall will not approve any application from operators found to be involved in vice, " he said.

"Those with operating licences will have them revoked. "

Salleh said its enforcement officers have been ordered to check all nightspots in the city to en sure that they are licensed.

"City Hall will work with other agencies to clean up Kuala Lumpur of immoral activities, " he said.

"We can close down all entertainment outlets in the city that flout the law. Just because they are an attraction for locals and foreigners doesn’t mean they can flout the law, " he said.

City Hall, he said, had stopped issuing licences for massage par lours in the city due to the numerous complaints that such businesses were fronts for immoral activities.

"We have closed down almost all the massage parlours in the city. Only those with valid licences are allowed to renew it, subject to inspection. "

Salleh said the same applied to reflexology centres that offered ‘extra services’.

He added that City Hall would check all applications and visit the premises.

"If we receive information that they were already operating while waiting for our approval, we will close them down immediately. "

He said only businesses cat egorised as ‘low risk’, such as boutiques, are allowed to operate while waiting for their licences to be issued.

"Entertainment outlets are only allowed to operate once their li cences are approved.

"Those who start operating be fore they get their licences and are involved in immoral activities will get their applications can celled. "

The Malay Mail had yesterday front-paged a report questioning why City Hall had not acted against the same spa when it had received a letter from Kuala Lumpur police three months ago, recommending that action be taken against the operator.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Ku Chin Wah said police faxed the letter after numerous raids were carried out against the same premises since last year.

Salleh, however, declined to comment on the issue, saying that he did not wish to prolong the matter.

I think the best KTV in town is Superstar,located not far from the hot area, a walking distance from JW Marriott/Shangri-la.
