Yes, taking back the coins is not good for the image at all if you want to ever go back there. This is actually known as "habitually sticky" (stingy) in Thailand rather than the perhaps more polite western term "cheap charlie".
In GoGo's I tend to tip, that is true and I have the feeling it's expected from the staff. Example a Beer might cost 120 Bath, I give then a 1000 Bhat note, after a while the witress comes back with a 500, 3 x 100, 3 x 20 Bhat notes and 20 Bhat in coins. The coins are that what they expect as a tip. So, I take the notes and leave the coins. That means that beer cost about 140 Bhat. I saw that even Thai people have the same habbit when they pay in the bill in GoGo's and Discos. Farangs and Thais who take the coins also, get a bad look which says most likely cheap charly. Maybe it's stupid to do so, but I see no real way back to cheap prices from years before.
A bar girl once told me the money you leave on the tray goes to the bar, so if you want to tip the waitress you have to take the money off the tray and hand it to her personally. ( she was a waitress that started turning tricks).
I hate coins and will leave them on the tray and hand the waitress 20/40 baht. Maybe more depending how drunk I am.

I have been in bars where the waitress sometimes returned my change all in coins but those coins can come in handy in a place like Pattaya where you need them to pay the taxi drivers.

The money goes to a pot from which later all the staff becomes than a part. So, if you want tip a special waitress than you have to give her the money direct.

Look, I'll give the waitress a tip for good service. This means getting my drink order right, not hassling me to buy girls drinks, and not telling me to move seats when some rich asshole comes in. But I will always hand her the tip. I don't usually leave coins on the tray. Most of the time when I pay with a large bill they give me change in all coins. I once got 200 baht change in 10 baht coins. They went straight into my pocket....all of them. Give me the correct change in the correct way (no unnecessary coins) then maybe you'll get a tip depending on the service.

Days of Mourning
Sorry to be a bother with my second request for specific info. I am planning my first trip to Bangkok during the princess' cremation rites, which I believe extend from Nov. 14-19. Does anyone know if bars and MPs will be closed in observance of this period? I do not want to visit if everything will be shut down.
THX in advance for any official word on this matter.
It's just one more piece of the puzzle, but the Thai govt has officially asked TV channels to exercise restraint and places of entertainment to cease "entertatining" during the three days of national mourning (Nov 14-16).
Bangkok Post article
Exactly how it comes down will depend on the police district doing the enforcing and local barowners won't get the detailed instructions until later. At this point, it appears a lot of the girls who work in gogos in Pattaya and Bangkok are making plans to go back to their villages for those three days.
Hi,
Is there a dating site like 'dateinasia.com' for finding girls in Bangkok? In DIA, if you are lucky, you can find girls and meetup with them while in Manila.
Have you tried Asian Friend Finder?

Not necessarily correct. In most cases the money does go into a pot/box or whatever, BUT, in many bars, the staff do NOT share the contents, it all going to the owner.
If in doubt - ask!

I have a bad habbit of turning up at the sky train only to find I need to change a note to buy a 25 baht ticket.
If I was given 100 baht in change it wouldn't be right to leave all of it on the tray.

A few days later. . .
Since my last report of 3 days ago or so, things have changed for the better. It's all a bit confusing to me. First, there are *****s everywhere, and of all kinds--sitting at cafes, sitting at bars, out on the streets and in gogos. How you approach them and what they cost is something I'm learning slowly. First 2 days experience was bad, but since then either very good or better. Nataree massage: 2 girls on 2 different days. 2600 baht (the most expensive girls they had). Both it turned out were mothers, bad. But bothquite pretty. One even had a boob job--very, very bad for me. 2 hours, maybe 30 minutes of which is spent in thebathtub and drinking coffee and not what I'm looking for. But one girlprovided 2 BBBJ and 2 cim. Other girl only covered BJ but almost provided anal and probably would have had I tried harder. Man happy two times with bothgirls, despite all. One nite after having made myself happy 3x and unable to sleep itook a stroll along sukhumvit. Dozens upon dozens of streetwalkers, most ugly. Then spotted a really cute eveninnocent looking one whocalled me over. I told her, no way, 3x today already. But she was laughing, happy, very sweet, and cute, like a japanese doll (I told her I thought she was japanese). Well, after some chat and convincing I took herback to hotel for 1000 baht--$30. A really sweet girl. We agreed to meet up the next day. Met her at 5pm, she arrived with a girl she was with the nite before. Quicklyexplained no sex with other girl, but wanted to go to 'ghost movie' and dinner (which we pretty muchagreed to the nite before). I don't know how things work aroundhere, but what the hell. Themovie and dinner for the 3 of us intotal cost something like $30--who cares (at least while I have a job). I guess this would classify as a classic GFE because she was very sweet, laughed a lot, and would never guess her line of work (probably a part timer). Spent nite together. Sex not great, BBBJ given tho she didn't enjoy it much. But seemed genuinely happy when customer (me) climaxed. Don't know how typical this sort of situation is--taking out to movies, buying dinner, some japanese animation books for her. Her fee for the overnight/LT stay was only 2000 baht. Don't get this at fkk club of course and I would sayshe was pretty much of fkk quality, maybe a tad lower, but still quite cute. Today after she left took quick stroll up near NP, in one of the bars saw a very hot bodied girl. Thought at first the tits were big owing to kids, but turned out completely natural and not a mother. Extremelynice body. Told her I had just had sex (with the GFE before sending her home) and didn't think icould go again, but she talked me into it. BBBJ for 1500 baht, gave her another 100 because she kept begging me! Very very nice body, energetic fucking, and determined BBBJ with CIM. I'd give her body at least an 8, maybe 9 or 10. Gorgeous curves to her hips, nice tits, especially for a thai. Face not bad at all--7? 8? So, things much improved lately. Just realized I didn't evenmentionthat took a gogo girl back the other night and would up having condomless sex with her. Don't think this was planned. She was very young (she'd said 16 but I dontthink this was possible, since she worked at major NP gogo place), and didn't seem to know or object to anything, except pointed to her butthole and said, No. So unprotected sex withthis girl and for me one of the cutest girls in all of NP. Not sure if this was the plan, think we sort of fell into it (she thought I only wanted BBBJ and didn't bring condoms, tho right next to her face on the bedside was my big box of condoms, so. ? ). Right after ranout to pharmacy and bought morning after pill for her--she didn't ask for this but last thing I want for her is to have my kid. Anyway, much fun since last report. And while there are many, many, many unattractive girls, there's quite a few nice ones and you never know where they will turn up. Lastly, strangely, my best experience has been with the place I would think you wouldn't get it--from a 'streetwalker' who provided the GFE and I spent the day with at the movies. Go figure. The saga continues.

Two nights ago popped into a couple of go-go bars just to wind down for the evening. Had a beer in each, bought a lady drink in each with no intention of bar-fining, and then moved on. My change also came in a large number of coins, and rather than getting my reading glasses out and rummaging through the coins to find a couple of 10's, just took the lot. Perhaps if they'd made it easy for me by leaving notes and a couple of 10's I might have left a tip. Figured I'd done my bit by having one expensive beer and one very expensive cola. Perhaps next time I might keep some 10's in my pocket before I go in to leave as a tip.

Hi All,
Can anybody let me know that November 14 to 16, everything there in BKK is closed for a cremation??. If this is correct, it really sucks as I will be there only in these days.

Reports
I am seeing a trend now where Field reports are written without the poster ever hitting the "ENTER" key.
The whole post then apprears like a big turd in the middle of the page resulting in me not reading it at all (and maybe others).
