There were mobile phones but mostly for calls and texts. None of the internet based apps or Google maps or anything else. How did we get around to finding poontang? INSTINCT. We could simply smell it out. With a bit of observation skills and street smartness we navigated our way. Did we get scammed? Hell, yes! Did we get scammed again the same way? Hell, no!

Sometimes I feel the punters heading to LOS now for the first time have it so much freakin easier.

Does anybody know of any pregnant or lactating girls in BKK at the moment? FL soapies or MP or whatever.

It's places like Indonesia where the internet has made a huge difference. My first trip to Bangkok was prior to the internet. I got laid within 2 hours of checking into my hotel my first trip to Bangkok even though I knew nothing about the surroundings prior to arriving. And I got laid multiple times daily, every day after that. Indonesia was much more difficult. It took me 2 months to figure out places to go. But after I figured out the places to go, it was awesome. Back in the day, before the ISG, before the internet, before personal computers, before HIV; travel equaled adventure and it was more fun then or maybe I was just "Golden" like Pony Boy in the "Outsiders. " Anyway, back then we had word of mouth or the grapevine. That was our major source of travel information and while you were on the road you would meet people with similar tastes and of somewhat similar economic social backgrounds as yourself from various countries around the world, all western ha ha, and talk about your varied travel experences, swap stories, and what not.

For example, I first heard about Phuket in 1972 from two Dutch girls on a beautiful beach in Cahuita, Costa Rica. The girls told me that if I liked Cahuita I would love Phuket where they had rented a thatched roof beach bungalow for $4/ night and smoked Thai Stick all night long. From that point on I knew I wanted to go to Thailand. Someone else told me about Patpong and I knew I wanted to go to BKK. Vice a versa I would tell other fellow travellers about the great blow in Santa Cruz, Bolivia or the wonderful girls in Colt 45 in San Jose ect ect. Maybe this informal grapevine is still alive today with the backpackers. I don't know because I dropped out of that club a long time ago.

I kind of miss that old way of travel, but the world has changed and so have I. I no longer have any desire to sleep in a thatched roof bungalow on a beautiful beach, with no running water and no screens for practically no money and no San Jose bar girl is going to shag me all night long for free as her grandmother used to do in the good old days. Life moves on.

I'll be in BKK in a few weeks and was interested in some of the girls from certain escort agencies (specifically xclusive thai). Problem is, some of the girls have "no Indian clients" written in their description. I'm assuming this is to deter hagglers, which Indians are (maybe rightfully so) infamous for.

I'm American but ethnically I'm Indian / brown. So do the "no Indian clients" disclaimers apply to me? I want to assume this is just for people that are actually from / born in India. I'm well dressed, have good hygiene, and definitely not cheap; but I'm wondering if this more than a culture issue, and if they just don't like brown guys.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

Forget them girls and concentrate on the girls that WANT to spend time with you. The girls that think you are a handsome man. 555. They are the ones that will show you a great time and I promise you that there will be no shortage of those girls. So, I suggest you concentrate on the Go Go's, massage parlors, and bars. You will be able to tell right away if a girl wants to be with you or not. Then your only decision will be who You want to be with.

Note: there are a few Go Go's with anti-Indian attitudes. The old Rainbow 4 bar policy was no Indians, but I believe most Go Go's do not bar anyone from entering. Perhaps another BM can list the Go Go's that discriminate. Just move on to the next Go Go if you are barred from entry at any one particular joint and DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. We all get discriminated against once in a while in the big Mango. Read the posts on Thermae for example.

If you are clean (i.e. no body odor) and pay the agreed amount, you should have no problem.
If an agency does create a fuss, just call another agency. There are so many choices.

I have sometimes stay at the Fraser Hotel on Soi 11. The 1 bedroom apartments are huge and very reasonably priced and I also enjoy being on Soi 11. But the Fraser happens to have a lot of Middle Eastern guests. It is really quite amazing when certain Muslim women, especially the fully covered older ones, get off the elevator. Believe me, you don't want to get on the elevator after they disembark because it stinks so bad. My Thai girls and I laugh about it. It is a clash of cultures to be sure. Many Middle Eastern Muslim men over indulge in the cheap cologne too, but not nearly as much as those fat women. Thai girls do not like it.

So smell clean, smell fresh, and don't reek of cologne is my tip of the month to our fellow Middle Eastern Muslim punters.

Cologne / perfume bother the hell out of me. I prefer women just smell like they came out of the shower.

Maybe we don't even know we have subtle odours that come with age.

My mother is in her 80's has a certain minor odour of the skin. I can detect it. She is a clean person. Virtually all older western people have odours ranging from almost undetectable to very strong (the guys that really stink). Many of these guys are in denial. They just don't know the exact extend of their body odours. Many Thais have noses that can detect odours that we might miss.

It believe that I must use very thorough cleaning procedures, especially tongue scraping, underarm antiperspirants with a light fragrance (to mask any slight odours), mouth wash and mints (after thorough cleaning), and also a cologne spray (make sure it is appealing one. Not el cheapo), not to reek of it, but very subtle to mask any skin odours. Thai girls do approve, if not overdone.

Clearly a mix of bad body stink with cologne mixed in, doesn't really do it, so the cleaning part is far more important. In Thailand this means showering multiple times per day, including before and after sex. Less is not good enough.

When I was a kid, I remember meeting east European families with high garlic content in their diets and noticing how their skin reeked of it, whole families, although the kids were less so. So there is no doubt our diets do have an effect on the smell of our skin too. Underarm and mouth bacteria are of course much worse. Thai garlic is much weaker, but I still try to avoid it and certainly no raw onions.

I don't know about the fat women. My experience of middle eastern, is the guys stink much worse than the women. They all seem to be unfazed so they are all clearly so used to these stinks, that they don't notice. In a queue for money exchange once, some Arabs came up behind me in the queue, and I just had to leave due to the acrid stench of their underarms (possibly un showered for the day or several days. I don't know). I don't like to stay in the same Hotel as middle eastern guests, purely because of the bad experiences of nearly being overcome by "fumes" in elevators, and thinking about holding my breath. Very sweaty Thai construction workers have so little odour in comparison when they have entered the same lift. Also I felt very out of place in Zenith hotel (Soi 3) years ago at breakfast. The middle eastern types appeared to stare at me and my lady at breakfast like we were lepers. She wasn't dressed sexy at all.

It makes me light headed when I smell it.

Here's my advice, take a hot young Thai to a fragrance store and have her pick out a scent for you. Tell her to pick something that all Thai people would like. She'll get something generic, but acceptable. Also, eat Thai food. It'll give your skin the same scent as the Thais.

You can really get away with a LOT with Thai girls.
