You find these prices different to WS? Last trip in May I was in Iron and asked for barfine for ST past midnight, it was 1250 to the bar plus 2 K for the girl (I didn't pull the trigger).

Price for the girl is the most astonishing to me, I've heard 4 K in 3 Angels, 4 K in Poison (not even a good looking girl, BTW barfine is 2 K there and she asked 2 K for ST upstairs), 5 K from one of my repeat girl from this trip near Beach road side (she is not a bullshit girl so I believe her, and she told me she's been barfined a few times already).

When the girl told me 5 K + 2 K I asked her "and guys are paying these prices? She said of course, and looked at me like saying "you think I'm not worth it or what?

Now for ST I've rejected a lot of girls who are trying to start their pricing at 1500 and are not considering anything lower than that, if I feel like the girl is worth it I'll pay it but these girls were not worth it in my mind (either in looks or attitude, or I could feel the session would not be great upstairs). Other girls can easily ask for 2 K, these are the ones that take you for a sucker or girls that are eighteen year old.

Now both of you (or others on the ground), do your own researches, ask these girls price of BF plus what she expects to get for a night out (even if you're not intending to BF them), come back and report here and we'll see if what I've been quoted is different to what you're hearing, and in which bar precisely.

Last thing is that a lot of girls are getting barfined in the soi, which means a lot of guys are really paying these prices. We just don't realise it on this board because discussions are always polluted by cheap charlies boasting about their 1000 bahts TF trophies like they found a real gem in a sea full of shit, but a lot of guys are spending big bucks in the soi and girls and bar owners are catching up with that reality.

I personnaly don't think the trend will stop anytime soon, given the number of young K-dudes or Chinese dudes roaming the soi every day.

I understand it's a chess game between customers, girls and bar owners, but I personnaly think these two categories of customers are a big part in this up-pricing trend.

Same with massage shops, Happy Ending shops and BJ Bars. But BJ Bars have been shut down because the girls were too demonstrative and vocal with passersby about what they offer inside.

If a soapie erects a big, highly visible led banner highlighting the sex that can happen if you pay the fee to them, I would expect them to be shut down and the proprietors to be arrested for profiting or living off the proceeds of someone else engaging in an act of prostitution. But I would not expect the girls providing that service or the customers paying them for it to get arrested for that act of prostitution.

Keep it low key, the explicit description of it out of sight from general traffic flow, don't embarrass Thailand in the minds of casual tourists on the direct issue of paying money for sex, mask it behind the notion of merely providing entertainment, a massage or an assisted wash down bath and the authorities are likely to take a live and let live approach to it.

And tea money probably helps too.

After all, if there really is a law on the books making it a crime to exchange of sex for money between consenting adults who have not been coerced into it by a third party and with service providers who have a proper visa, why aren't soapies, massage shops, Happy Ending shops and BJ Bars shut down and the proprietors, girls and customers inside arrested for it every day?

Why aren't cops whose rent money is short by 1,000 - 2,000 baht this month riding up on their motorbikes next to farrang punters blatantly negotiating with street girls every hour to settle the penalty for their "crime" on the spot as quickly as they try to bust me on my motorbike for not wearing a helmet and not having a driver's license (it is an electric bicycle some cops mistake for a full size, regulation motorcycle. LOL) and what about the shakedowns where the cops are checking to see if you have contraband in your pocket or bag?

There is no effort by the cops to do that when an obvious act of prostitution is taking place in full view of them on Beach Road in Pattaya or on Soi 4 in Bangkok because there is no law on the books specifically criminalizing the act of prostitution.

Now, try negotiating such a thing in full view of a busload of tourists parked at the Grand Palace or a Temple and you and your street girl are probably going to find yourselves seized upon by every color uniformed officers and carted off to jail. The charge will be something like creating public nuisance related to the act of prostitution.

Or were there enough extenuating circumstances to support a case that your buddy, his friend and the 16 year old girl expected there to be some exchange of money or something else with monetary value for having sex with her? It could even be as much as previous online exchanges by those same guys on that same site with older girls where it was clear they were there to hook up with prostitutes and not to find a wife.

And you're talking about the military, right? The military might have a whole set of different rules about their property, the soldiers, interacting with girls of any age for any reason and the Thai authorities would be well aware of that too.

Don't the cops say they did it to "Crack down on prostitution" or some such thing and doesn't the media report it as such too?

Yes. Because they are being lazy and / or intentionally imprecise about it.

They were all based on visa issues pertaining to so many Africans and Vietnamese girls hanging out on Soi 4 back then. Took a couple of years before they felt safe to return in notable numbers.

None of those sweeps were because the girls were engaged in prostitution.

And, of course, no customer was swept up in a sweep because he was offering girls, consenting adults, money for sex either.

And as far as I know no girl and certainly no punter that I know of made a habit of paying off the cops with tea money to keep from getting busted on a charge of prostitution.

Which, IMHO, are all factors about as convincing as it gets that there is no reasonable interpretation of the Thai Penal Code that supports the idea that the simple act of prostitution is illegal absent any fairly logical extenuating circumstances or obviously troubling co-factors regarding age, undue coercion, creating a public nuisance and so on.
