Hello, ISG:
Several months ago I asked for some input into where I should go to study Spanish and chase chicas (not necessarily in that order). After much thought I recommended to my sponsor, who is graciously offering to pay for a Spanish study program abroad, that I go to Medellin.
I recently received approval for the trip and am tentatively scheduled to spend 6 weeks in Colombia beginning in the middle of June. This of course brings up the matter of logistics.
I am looking for input and advice on a few subjects. The two Spanish language schools I am looking at are both in Poblado, so advice on apartment in that area would be greatly appreciated. I am once again a college student and a possible future employer is covering the costs for this trip. This does not mean the budget is unlimited however. Is $175 a week for 6 weeks a reasonable figure for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in Poblado?
Advice would also be appreciated on how to obtain a cell phone in Colombia, as well as the best way to transport and/or have access to your cash whilst there. The prospect of carrying 6 weeks worth of spending money around with me is not appealing.
Finally some overall input as to what to do on a budget such as mine would be useful. I am a late blooming college student, 41 years old by the time I get to Medellin, and as such my spending cash is being saved for physical sciences more than for physical inspections. I do speak a little bit of Spanish already. Before the drug lords went nuts, I could move around Tijuana or Mexicali relatively well.
Unfortunately I have only about $50 a day in spending cash. I am confident this is plenty to live on, but I will not be bedding P4P chicas at the rate of a Cubanut or one of the many prodigious "playahs" that populate this forum. However, despite my advanced age, I still have a pretty good game when it comes to the ladies. What I lack in Antonio Banderas good looks I make up for in misplaced confidence. And for me the chase is nearly as much fun as the conquest. So I am hoping that opportunities will present themselves often to practice the hunt on a more miserly budget. So beyond the usual casas, where should I go to see the sights on a Saturday afternoon, and where are the best bangs for your entertainment buck, both under the sheets and on a more touristy note?
I am sorry this note ran on a bit, but I hope I can learn a lot about Medellin before I get there in order to maximize the time I spend hunting, and minimize the time I spend finding a place to hunt.
Thanks in advance.
