Two quick Thermae questions for a veteran.
They locked the 1st floor door from Ruamchit lobby to Thermae. What a pain in the ass to get in the back door now even for those staying at the hotel.
8:30 pm. Never seen this place so quiet in my life. Maybe 20 girls and 10 guys. Left to go to Cowboy.
10:15 pm. An absolute zoo packed with many girls and Japanese guys. Very hot girls. Maybe 10 I could have went with. Took one of my regulars. I still think she's the hottest one.
1:00 am. Talent thinned out quite a bit. Maybe down to 50 girls and fewer guys. Couple of doable ones but after my draining session with my regular I was too beat to try another.
1) Why do they make you pay to use the open restroom in the back?
2) Why do most paired up couples then exit through the back -- more discreet?
I've only been there once so didn't really get to take it all in and understand the nuances of the social order there. Going back in a month or two and will report back.
Thanks.
One night in Bangkok makes an average guy disillusioned.
Subtitle: Spanky's OK, Foxzee top, Crazy Horse flop, Mcdonalds crazy.
I just had one night in Bangkok coming from Pattaya and leaving for Mandalay tomorrow. Went to Spanky's first, everything as expected. The problem is, I had exceptional nights in Spanky's before, so a normal night there is kind of disappointing. So I went to Foxzee bar in soik 20, a little bit but not completely off the beaten track. Met a 100% stunning cutie there but it being my first visit I didn't know exactly what was on offer. And to be honest, I already wanted to spend an hour or two in Crazy Horse and company would have been difficult to handle.
So went to Crazy Horse. Big disappointment! I'm not one the one to count every single baht, but being a mathematician by profession in earlier times I can't help having the current total bill somewhere in the back of my head. At least in places where I know the prices. So when it was time to pay the bill I knew it would amount to something between 1800 and 1900. Instead, I was quoted 2500, which simply couldn't be the correct sum, and besides, even a drunk non-mathematician would have been surprised by the roundness" of that number. So I politely mentioned that there had probably been some mistake and to please redo the calculation. The absolutely stunning girl number 21 in my arms (and between my legs) insisted that 2500 was the total bill, but after some discussion she told the waitress to get a phone. Instead, the waitress took all the signed slips to the cashier and came back with a calculator and the same stack of signed slips. Except that after the original slips with a total amount of 1860 baht there was a new slip. Not signed, of course, with an additional amount of 640 baht! At least somebody had been able to correctly calculate 2500-1860! I pointed out that this last sales slip was new and not signed and hadn't been part of the stack of bills as it came out of my bill holder. Then a discussion with my girl number 21 and the waitress ensued about how I didn't understand the bar rules and how of course the additional 640 baht were to cover the lady's share of the lady drinks! The girl even started to theatrically pull her LD-slips out of her pocket and handed them back to the waitress! I insisted on knowing the rules and on paying 2000, as I had planned before already, including some tips. The waitress finally accepted (maybe remembering that I had offered her and the mamasan a drink earlier?) but insisted on a tip (that was not given) and on escorting me to the door. She even kissed me on the lips for goodbye but my suspicion is that she later talked to the doorman to point out who was not welcome at the club anymore next time. Well, let's see what will happen.
The sad thing is that even after their attempted scam they didn't just back down and claim that some unfortunate mistake had happened but instead the took it to the next level, first stupidly adding a new and unsigned sales slip, and then accusing me of not knowing any newly invented rules. I'm OK if I just have to keep an eye on the bill, and so far situations like this have always ended with some staff apologizing about a minor mistake and me pretending to believe the coincidence and handing over the tip that I had planned to give anyway before being scammed. But this time they tried to go on with the scam which I think is quite unpleasant. The other sad thing is that even despite what happened I will go back to crazy horse. Stupid me! There's simply no other place with so many fully nude girls in Bangkok. But if a place can survive so many successful or failed attempts to scam their customers (check the internet to find out!) just because they have some nude girls on display, then why the hell aren't other bars in the same road not following the same strategy? Personal acquaintances with people of influence?
The long story cut in short: don't visit crazy horse because they will try to rip you off, and if you ignore my advice like I will do myself then at least check your bills very carefully! I'm not the first that was offered a bill there that was a little bit too high.
From Crazy Horse I went to Suzy Wong. There I ordered my own drink and another drink for a girl. After a while the girl left, I sad bye and thanks for all the fish and the time spent with me. Five minutes later the girls comes back with a drink in her hand! It seems Suzie Wong has invented (together with others) a new way to cheat on their customers. It's the third time during these 2 week holidays of mine that it has happened to me that I refused to pay a drink and the drink just came all the same. It has never happened before in 9 years of bar experience in south east Asia, but three times already in one week! I don't think that my refusals are so much less clear and harder to understand all of a sudden, so my guess is that some clever bar owner or manager or mamasan came up with the idea to ask the customer for another drink and then bring one, regardless of the customer's answer. It the customer complains, just blame the loud music for a misunderstanding and hope that the naive customer will pay the drink all the same.
How nice. I'm starting to not completely disbelieve those old, angry and sometimes sour expatriots who tell me again and again how every Thai is a scammer. And I'm also trying to reschedule the rest of my holidays, maybe to ban chang or even Cambodia. Not sure though if the situation there is better since I last visited PP and Snooky ville.
After Crazy Hourse and Suzy wrong I went to Mcdonals, calling it a day. I sat opposite a ladyboy who spent at least 20 minutes watching himself in a pocket mirror and arranging some of his hair, not even using a comb but putting one hair at a time to one side and back to the other side. I really started to doubt his mental integrity! I mean, how can you sort your hair for 20 minutes in a pocket mirror? And he's probably still at it even now that I'm writing this 2 hours later!
OK, that ladyboy didn't do me any harm, not even of the financial type, contrary to he Crazy Suzy house! But on the other hand I really start to dislike those strange people. Nowadays there are bars that I don't even go into because from the outside I don't know if they will be full of guys inside! And therefore of course they regard deceiving customers about their real sex as legit, after all it's about earning money.
So, to cut a long story short: don't expect wonders in Spanky's, find your own cutie in a bar off the beaten track, avoid Crazy Horse and Suzie wong, and help stopping the ladyboy epidemic!
