So be careful and do not take too much variables when walk about. These scams happen frequently in South America in general, I was told.
Remember they were trying to scam me and the whole things depends on my cooperation, believing in him being a policeman. No violence was attempted and it was not a robbery. May be I was lucky to be able to just walk away. If violence was involved however, I would have just emptied my pocket, given them what they wanted and then walked away, hopefully.

How did you know the policeman was not real? What if he was? I am always unsure what to do in these situations. In Colombia, I am occasionally stopped at police checkpoints where there are a whole bunch of them so you are reasonable sure they are real.

His English was too good and the fact that the fake tourist tested me out first. Why did he want to see my passport and not the young guy's. I travel a lot and no one took much notice of a retired 60 year old Asian man. We simple do not take much risk. We are not the drug type and we do not abandon our good life and try to smuggle ourselves into Colombia. Anyway, I had to decide in a fraction of a second what to do and walking away seemed the only feasible decision at the time. If he is real, then he could have stopped me then. Used TransMilenia to go up and down Bogota the last three days. Simply go to any TransMilenia station and tell then the best you can that you want a ticket for three days (tarjeta durante tres dias). I paid COP18 k for 10 trips, which can be on buses from other companies as well. The rest involves getting used to the system and try things out. I had help of a smart phone, which has maps to tell me where I was, without using data roaming. The worst is some buses jump a few stops at a time, others stop everywhere.
Santa Fe is like a zoo (which I like). Have not partake but will try in later trips. Very safe in the morning, as suggested by others. Thanks again.
