David. What he says about himself is true but he fails to add he has been warned by police in the Arab world for trying to bring an assortment of goodies that the girls like (and you would consider tasteless and would congratulate the police force). The bit that is a lie is "innocent".

Alternative is to re-read your post when you post it and you can edit it for around 15 or 20 minutes after posting.
Another common error is for guys to type "I D" and it comes out in the post as "I'd". Easy trick is to put a space between the I and the D and you get I D.

My only disagreement with the Editor's Comments is that I doubt Filipinos, no matter the wretchedness of their situation, will ever "run amok" on the epic scale required to evince meaningful change. Granted that it's happened twice in the recent past, with no discernible improvement. Even the two Edsa "revolutions" however involved only a relatively small percentage of the population, and only in Manila. I believe that for the majority of Filipinos, that is for the 70 or 80 million who don't live in Metro Manila, the latter is irrelevant to their lives and they don't, for the most part, believe in the feasibility of meaningful change.

Make them believe they're happy by their singing and dancing. Put that "culture" on television nearly 24 hours a day. Some rice and dried fish, a full belly and a couple of Red Horses and you've got the country under control. Oh yeah, I forgot about some model airplane glue to sniff too. It took me 4 taxi drivers today to make it home from less than 1 km from my place today. Nobody wanted to use the meter, and all wanted at least twice the price. It's so sad because so many of the people are really very sweet, but corruption has gone beyond being pervasive. That's Manila.

Lots and lots of petty gripes and sniping at the system, but I would challenge any of the expat critics to come up with any tangible practical solutions to the socioeconomic ills of this country. " The elite in the US (who own nearly as much portion of national wealth as the Big Families of the Philippines) are doing the same thing just at a slightly higher absolute standard: a Big Mac with fries, supersized with a couple Budweisers and the next episode of The Simpsons seems sufficient to make most Americans forget the fact that they are in the unequal condition they are. And Joe Six Pack has just as much odds of rising up against his pathetic condition as Juan Six Pack. For thought. Enjoy the Philippines, AsianRain.
