I do like Uganda a lot. But a major budget item is accommodation. And in Mtwapa there is loads of brand new apartments going up. 200 usd gets you a decent brand new 2 BR. But the most upscale area is Nyali. But I don't like it. You need transportation anywhere to go. And IMHO its not Africa. Just another boring residential area with some boring shopping malls.Always rent unfurnished and furnish yourself. Another aspect is connectivity. Loads of flights even from Mombasa now. Quatar Turkish Ethiopian all fly direct to MBA and you can connect pretty much everywhere. Very good private hospitals like Mombasa hospital and Aga Khan. Lightning fast 4G. The only issue is food. Most restaurants are way too expensive for the quality they offer. But if you're able to throw a steak on a grill and cook yourself you're all set.

I do like Uganda for the climate and chicas. There is two caveats though. Pollution and congestion in Kampala. And surprisingly crime. Murders are up big time in Kampala. And when I was checking on housing it was way more expensive too. Kenya has its issues politically. But by and large its stable. Uganda the big question mark will be when Museveni departs. Nobody knows if it remains stable. But I can always jump on a regional flight. But IMHO as a base Kenya is hard to beat.
I know some consider Mtwapa as a dump. but. you need to have some kind of social life and there is some great widely travelled expat mongers hanging out there. Great fun.

I was in MBA last year and it seemed like home fiber was only in Nyali. I stayed in an Airbnb in bamburi and it was loud. But my main problem with MBA is the humidity coming from Nai is a huge difference, I remember seeing a camel chill out in the shade That was the funniest thing I saw.

I think I need more time and money because I miss little things. I mailed my knives multitools to Kenya using Kenya post and they straight stole most of it. You're right I don't "need" a leatherman but I'm a Amercan. I feel naked without a gun and I never used mine in America. It's part of American cowboy culture Yee hah! LOL.

I do use a leatherman a lot to fix things. I broke some headphones and I taped them using duct tape (I know they have it here but I don't see it in the stores).

Back to the topic. I'm going to take a year to see what I actually need then I'm going to bounce around the continent.
