Just came back from downtown Istanbul and experienced what I almost expected.

Up front: Went downtown as I was searching for something cheaper than 700 or even 1, 000 EUR for a night as advertised on many escort pages.

Took a taxi from my hotel nearby the airport and paid 30 TL. The Taxi driver didn't know where "The City Hotel" (near the Balance disco) is and dropped me at a wrong "City Hotel", even after I passed him the address.

However, I took another taxi and he asked for 20 TL for a 3 minute ride. 1st scam for this evening.

Arriving at "The City Hotel", it was hard to find Balance as google maps looks easy, but being on the spot is more difficult.

I was anyhow quite early (10 pm) , so I walked around and. Got lost, ending up in taking another taxi, asking directly for "Balance disco". He know what I meant and drove me. But not to Balance as "Balance is closed, . Personnel now here.". I insisted to go to Balance (around the corner) but he and another guy who jumped to the taxi ensured me,"Balance is closed since 2 weeks". Not sure if they are right, paid 10 TL for the taxi, walked in where they guided me (possible 2nd scam for this evening) , paid 50 TL entrance fee, chose a table with 2 RO girls (blond and black; both 3. 5 out of a scale to 10) , received a coke and fruits etc. Which I rejected but they didn't take it away. The guy didn't move from my side "Service. Service." I told him my drink would be part of the entrance fee. "Service. Service." and even asked him if he wants to take a seat next to me as he just didn't want to disappear. To get rid of him, I had to pay another 50 TL (3rd scam for this evening) and started negotiations with the girls.

I had to learn that they do not calculate in hours or night, but in 1 or 2 or 3."times". I agreed on "2 times each girl. 3 hours (my idea) .200 EUR each girl" and we left. Leaving the "Disco" I had to pay another 50 TL at the door (? For what? /4th scam.) and got asked by the guy who opened the door of the taxi to tip him. I was.meanwhile- so upset that I told him I would punch his face if he does not disappear immediately.

I didn't want to go to my hotel, so we first tried "The City Hotel" (full) and than another very poor looking, max 1* hotel, which charged me 240 TL ( 100 EUR) which made it the 5th scam for this evening. I also had to leave my I'd at the front desk, which made me feel quite uncomfortable.

The guy who brought us upstairs asked for a tip and almost got upset that I didn't pay him 50 TL but "only" 20 TL (6th scam) brought us some drinks afterwards (water, red bull, coffee) and finally got his 50 TL (7th.) , which he again insisted on, finally leaving us ALONE! . The girls received 500 TL each and we started. Service was 2 out of possible 10 and we ended after 1 1/2 hours (8th.) , me being quite glad to leave this nightmare.

Sex with the girls: Nice talks (can speak a little RO, which helps, but in total. One didn't kiss; owo no option; girls talking with each other while we had sex. Etc. Just, as written, a max 2 out of possible 10.

After I received back my I'd, there was a friendly man "offering" a VIP taxi which was a white Renault (delivery car). , brought the girls back to the "Disco" and tried to bring me to my hotel, gave up, stopped a taxi, didn't ask for money (! Surprise!) and left me with the taxi driver who finally brought me to my Holiday Inn airport hotel (30 TL).

Concluding: I paid 1, 000 TL for 2 low class girls and another 550 TL for the taxi and all these scammers on add. Taxi, entrance, tips etc.

For this money I could have booked a high class girl to my room for at least 6 hours. But even than I would have felt quite bad, paying around 700 EUR for 1 girl / 6 hours. Compared to East European or even German rates, this is just ridiculous.

If I wouldn't be on a business trip, I anyhow would never had made it to Turkey again, as I experienced already years ago (vacation / Antalya) that you get scammed wherever possible. It seems like being part of the Turkish genetic code to scam tourists or foreigners wherever and however possible.

This city and the red light scene is a total fail. Sorry to say, but I experienced enough all around the world to judge that right.

Can only recommend you to try the German FKK (can give you useful hints on that, if wished) , even Budapest some weeks ago was a real nice experience; having flown in some chicks from RO to Germany is an option (maybe even to Turkey) , Kiev is always worth a trip. But what's going on here. Not to describe! And definitely not to repeat. Will fly back on Monday and will start to count the hours!

Inspite of reading all the warnings in this forum and wikitravel, I still met the same fate as you during the last weekend:

1. Took a taxi from Maslak (sheraton) to Aksaray and gave the address of city hotel. Taxi driver stopped in some street in aksaray and pointed to a hotel 100mts away as the city hotel. I got off the taxi and walked towards the hotel to find that its some other hotel (SCAM 1).

2. Walked around the streets for 20 minutes in search of city hotel. Got fed up and asked a taxi to take me to city hotel. He asks for 10 USD. Inspite of me being aware that the hotel is nearby, I agreed for 10USD out of desperation (SCAM 2) and he took me to the hotel called city and said that this is the hotel you are looking for. He drove from the pickup point to the hotel for just 2 minutes. I got off in search of balance disco and found out that I am in wrong street again. (SCAM3). I was actually dropped near the star city hotel.

3. Started to walk again and saw a youngster. Stopped him and enquired about the balance disco. Good soul, he showed me the way. Finally reached balance disco after 1. 30 hours of searching to find out that the place is closed.

4. Was approached by two guys. They said that the place is closed and there is a new place near by which is good and they can drop me off there. Alarm bells in my head went off. They said just 10TL for the taxi, they will drop me in the club and leave. I thought I can go and I need not to take these two with me into the club. I was dropped in a club called Rio night club, as agreed I paid them only 10 TL.

5. 50 TL entrance that includes a drink and some snacks. Manager tried to make metsit in a table with one full JD bottle already open. Alarm went off in my head again. I avoided the table and chose one myself. Beer and snack were served. Lot of beautiful ladies were waiting to be picked up. Saw a girl from turkmenistan, such a beauty, tall and little chubby. Since she did not know english, the manager made the deal. I asked the price for full night and manager after checking with the girl, said 350 USD. I thought it was good deal. As a tradition, the girl drink a whisky as well.

6. I asked for the bill. There you go. 1000 TL. I said WTF, and I was shocked to see a full bottle JD opened in my table. I didn't know when the bottle arrived to my table. I said see, I can't pay 1000TL. The manager says, you can't leave with out paying. I was surrounded by few more guys and ended up paying 750 TL. (BIG SCAM 4).

7. Inspite of all these things, I still decided to take the girl to the hotel. When I came out with the girl, I saw those two guys getting their taxi key from the manager. So its a well organised scam and many people co. Operate. Since I did not see any taxi in the street, I asked these guys to drop me off in the hotel. Reached the hotel and they say 100TL is the taxi fare. Normal fare is actually 35 to 40 TL. Since I don't want to create a rukus infront of the hotel as I already have the girl with me paid of the 100 TL (SCAM 5).

8. I was very upset. But the girl changed my mood. She was good and we did have good sex. Two pops and she was horny and wet like hell. Suddenly she says, time is over and I have to leave in sign language. I said to her in english that, I have paid for the full night service. She starts to get ready. Back in Germany now and "glad" to see it seems to be the normal case down there downtown Istanbul as I almost thought I am a total fool, even after mongering for almost 2 decades.
