3500 girls in VM? having just returned from Brazil, on my half dozen or so visits to VM, it appeared to me to be operating at less then half capacity. Most of the Casas were either closed or vacant. Perhaps several hundred working girls, not thousands as is claimed.

Isn't that general though? Monday is frequently a quiet night. The figures for the number of girls working there usually indicate a total rather than at any one time. Weekends when it's hooching I think it's probably into four figures. But there's queues at some casas for cabins while the ones at the very end of the middle alley (between the U-bend and the show-bar strip) are often empty cos no-one walks up to the end. Vila Mimoza (originally written with 'z' due to the Portuguese at the time) was to first address the street Pinto de Azevedo, located in Mangrove neighborhood of Statius in Rio de Janeiro. But it was demolished because the city thought the building of the administrative center (where you work now the mayor). The transfer was for street Miguel de Frias, near the old place, also in the mangroves.
The drive was very large, especially in the '20s because there were many soldiers fighting riots and rebellions throughout Brazil, which had as its President Arthur Bernardes. The Rio de Janeiro was going through difficult times, the military did not want the office of the President, made in Rio de Janeiro on Copacabana Fort revolt. Even though rigid military discipline, was a necessity to have moments of fun and that they could at Vila Mimoza.
One of the most assiduous attenders was the poet Manuel Bandeira. The location of the area lasted until about 94/95, when the state decided that the building was listed by TV Rio heritage.

Vila Mimosa is constituted from a social and commercial construction, where there is a configuration of the business premises of a variety that goes beyond the sale of sex. This is a group of establishments located in the same space (streets) and connected by the activity of prostitution.
Despite the name of the village, its beginning was in a large shed with about 2500 square meters, a building built in the shape of a square, where the front is open and facing the main street (Sotero dos Reis ). Vila Mimosa was the breadbasket of several adult film actresses Rio. Most famously, Natasha Lee, who came to participate in an episode of the series Mike in Brazil.
Are exactly 70 houses in the village, in every one are at least 10 quarters. In Vila almost all establishments are open 24 hours (only tents, tents and trailers that sell meals and drinks run from 15/16 hours).
According to the Association of Condominium Residents and Friends of the Villa Mimosa (AMOCAVIM), on the nights of Friday and Saturday about 4,500 people (around 3,000 men and 1,500 women) traveling in the complex of Vila Mimosa.
For the safety of street Sotero dos Reis and internal security staff (undercover) is paid by the owners. Not allowed to transvestites or male prostitutes working at home, having to preserve the tradition, only women are accepted.
For the Brazilian legislation, maintaining an establishment for prostitution is a crime, so the Vila Mimosa is an illicit business. In the legal agreement of the Village is specified that the shed is a commercial venture without explaining its use. The brothels are located in front of the shed are old houses that were turned into commercial ventures. Each of these bars work with its legal registration of trade.
